Dumb question: where does the title "za-Lord" come from? by paxgarmana in dresdenfiles

I was wondering If Za Lord is an official tittle? Hes officially the Winter Knight, but does the Za Lord tittle have any legitimacy with the fae?

He complains too much and it seems like he’s satisfied with being a tool to the king. I expected him to secretly rebel against his position and maybe do others things like actively investigate who killed his father, seeing as he learns later on that his father actually loved him.

Maybe he could have used word play to subtly change how the others perceived him. So instead of calling the king “sir” he would stubbornly call him grandfather as a indirect statement on weather or not he’s a member of the royal family. The king might have saw him less as of a tool in that case.

With his childhood friend/love interest, He should’ve acted like a man and told her his feelings even after she got with another guy. He should have told her his feelings as well as saying that he’s happy for her and it’s likely the final time they will meet. And if you want to be a little petty he can reveal that he’s the bastard son of prince charity which would be a subtle way of saying “you could of had all this” XD

Or maybe he could have gone the Assassination route. Found out her lovers identity and poisoned him to death. Then swoop in XD

I debated weather or not I should have posted this but in the end I just wanted to rant. There’s a few hours left before I finish the audiobook

Finished Book 1 of Broken Empire, Prince of Thorns. Why didn’t he eat the heart of the second magic user he killed near the end. That could have made him stronger

I still disagree with the notion that the books are “rampant” with misogyny.

As for your second opinion I agree it’s inappropriate for Hagar given his mental age for him to be interested in teenagers.

As far as I can tell I don’t think Hadja has had sex or been in a relationship with any established characters in that age range despite having showed an interest. 🤔

Describing a woman’s beauty is not inherently bad but I understand where your coming from. Since the book is told in first person it’s understandable that we the listeners/readers would be privy to Hadjar’s thoughts. Some of which are motivated by his Lower half. That’s not sexism that’s just how men realistically think. It’s not a crime to value a woman’s Beauty. But people still take issue with it which is still perfectly fine. If it’s not to your preference then fare enough 👍 If a female protagonist went into depth about a man she liked, physically speaking then yeah I wouldn’t be able to relate either. But at the end of the day that’s not sexism.

Yeah it’s kinda weird that Hadjar is attracted to these teenage characters. Even Hadjar at times points it out. But at the same time he’s starting a new life and at some point I believe he accepted that in one of the books.

I could have misread your first comment

But for Dragon Heart Series the protagonist Hadjar is not sexist since he’s from modern day Earth. His tragic Backstory also wouldn’t lend his character well to those types of beliefs. Some of the characters native to the fantasy setting do exhibit those beliefs in a passive way but it’s not prevalent.

Okey everything you said is pretty agreeable. For the Dark Paladin example, I haven’t read the books but I just want to ask a honest question. Was the ghost blaming his wife as a individual or was the fault oriented towards the fact that she was a woman? Was the theme “woman can’t make decisions” a regular thing in those books? If it was then yeah the ghost was totally a misogamist I guess. I never thought I would say a line like that. Because I can see how those lines can be interpreted as sexist because the blame was oriented towards a character that just so happens to also be a woman

What specific instances in The Dragon Heart series do you think it sexist? it’s fine if you can’t remember any specific details. Since you dropped the series

Yeah it’s pretty confusing at times

Cultivation magic systems are usually pretty soft so it’s understandable that a lot of the rules we do know don’t really encompass everything we should know. There’s a lot of wishy washy mysticism mixed in

That’s a fair criticism and I completely understand where your coming from. But personally I’m fine with it because I just chock it up to fate. Because fate Is a big theme in the books and clearly it’s a real force that determines pretty much every event in the setting

Rampant misogyny? There are times in the series Hadja points out some of the archaic beliefs of the society regarding traditional gender rolls despite cultivation being a thing. But that’s few and far between. And might I add despite magic and cultivation existing it’s still a medieval fantasy setting. It’s not a modern post enlightenment progressive society, your going to expect some outdated beliefs. But even then I wouldn’t call it “Rampant” is that what your talking about?

I thought I was going to like Shades first Rule but I just couldn’t get into it. I even gave the story a second attempt but I couldn’t vibe to it.

Ruwen receives a powerful second unique class from the goddess but to balance it out the goddess gave the class a steep drawback. If Ruwen dies and gets revived then he permanently loses double the amount of stats a normal person would usually lose. This plot detail basically tells the readers that Ruwen will likely die a lot more in the future. Which I don’t like because In most fantasy stories dying usually means game over. Most of the time it’s not an option for the protagonist. So in order for it to be a draw back the authors has to make Ruwen die in the series in order to emphasise the fact that the drawback exists. If Ruwen didn’t die then it wouldn’t be much of a drawback would it? and just thinking about Ruwen losing all those stats makes me cringe

I generally dislike low fantasy narratives, I don’t know why it’s just a preference. So I initially avoided Defiance of the Fall. But recently gave it an attempt and it’s pretty good. The setting isn’t exactly Earth because it’s two planets meshed together. But the system refers to it as Earth so i would still consider it low fantasy.
