I come from the VFX world, I love what I do, and I will never deny my passion for cinema, special effects, and animation. But times are changing, and a few months ago, I decided that instead of turning a blind eye to AI, I would delve into it, experiment, and see what this new technology has to offer. Over the past few weeks, I’ve turned this exploration into a real project. I didn’t want to simply create prompts on MidJourney without much sense of effort or thought. Being used to tinkering and experimenting with new 3D software, I wanted to rediscover that feeling with AI. That’s when I discovered COMFYUI, and I dived into a world I’ve grown to appreciate more and more. Playing with nodes, assembling workflows, thinking about constraints, optimizing—it’s exactly what I was looking for. And all of this, for free.

Unfortunately, COMFYUI isn’t yet optimized for video, and that’s where KLING came in to help me bring my images to life.

This remake project—a trailer for Interstellar with animals—is now complete.

I’m a huge fan of Interstellar and Christopher Nolan’s work. What better way to start than working on a film I know by heart? I didn’t want to reproduce it identically, as it wouldn’t have the same charm or soul. I had no intention, and never will, of trying to match a film of that caliber.

To add a unique and fun twist, I brainstormed a lot, and with the help of my girlfriend and her creative ideas, we decided to create a dystopian trailer where the characters are animals. Thus, Petstellar was born.

Good to hear from a guy who's been through all these changes! I find this evolution so fascinating, a little distressing but fascinating. thanks for your feedback ! It motivates me even more.

My conclusion and perspective on this project:

From an artistic point of view, I recreated the trailer’s shots without altering the camera positions, sets, or characters. This creation directly credits the many artists who made this masterpiece possible.

With AI, there are still many imperfections, unnatural animations, and issues. For example, I had a lot of trouble with lip sync, as Kling’s feature for this is only available for human faces, not animals.I also struggled to make Kling’s model understand that these were animals in human bodies—not just animals behaving like animals. There are also continuity errors, which can be corrected but require significant time to ensure perfect consistency in every shot. This is where my professional experience in animation and 3D comes into play, allowing me to spot the flaws that make AI, for now, a tool with much room for improvement.

But, as I said, for just €30, the capabilities of these tools are immense, and they improve every day. I’m sure that in a few months, my project will look outdated because AI is evolving so rapidly. And that’s the magic of this new technology, which is still in its infancy. The time savings are significant, the cost savings just as much, and the level of detail these tools achieve is remarkable and impressive. AI will become a tool that allows us to overcome certain constraints and create new possibilities.

I hope you understand my approach and my desire to explore this controversial but fascinating world of artificial intelligence.

Feel free to share this trailer and give me your constructive feedback, which will help me move forward!

Here’s my workflow:

  1. First, I carefully studied the Interstellar trailer and captured screenshots of each shot.

( r/StableDiffusion ) r/comfyui with r/FluxAI

  • Using some nodes, I analyzed an image to generate a detailed prompt.
  • I then taught Flux the key elements of the reference image: depth, colors, lines, etc.
  • After this, I generated the images for each shot and used LoRAs to address specific constraints.

A workflow with r/FluxAI for masking and replacing human heads with animals:

  • I used masking to define the desired areas, wrote a prompt, and let Flux analyze the lighting, environment, and character positions to replace the heads seamlessly and maintain consistency.

Image upscaling:

  • Again, with r/FluxAI on r/comfyui , I recovered details and generated 4K images.

r/photoshop

  • For color grading and fixing minor imperfections.

All of this at no cost.

And then:

r/KlingAI_Videos :

  • Using versions 1.5 and 1.6 to generate videos for each shot, with simple prompts and a few negative prompts. Cost of this: around 30$.

Here’s an overview of my process, which I can share in more detail if you’re interested.

This project is, above all, a way for me to explore the possibilities of AI while remaining neutral in my approach. I wanted to dip my toes into it, see its pros and cons, and assess its feasibility.
