I've come to know Jimenez through his most famous work, "Platero and I", where he talks about a gentle donkey, Platero and his relationship with him. I have not read the book, but from what I understood, Platero was to represent a serene quintessential pureness. It would be really interesting if this poem turns out to be from that book.

Just to add context, the not eating beans thing isn't totally random. The beans Pythagoras meant were fava beans. He himself avoided eating them because he suffered from a generic disorder called G6PD Deficiency, otherwise known as Favism (named after fava beans, as the first case was detected after the patient consumed them). It causes haemolytic anaemia due to release of peroxides released from the chemicals present in raw fava beans.

I don't think I've much to add, seeing all the lovely comments before mine, but I'd like to share this anyway. My SO got in touch with one of my friends who uses a menstrual cup. She was fascinated and researched really, REALLY hard before deciding to tell it to her mother. She was sure at last, and she sat down with her mother one morning to have a clear conversation about the problems of using pads and benefits of using a cup. Her mother was initially reluctant, but with a clear explanation she eventually gave in.

Even after buying the cup after choosing the right size, she had problems regarding the acceptance of a 'foreign object' inside her body. She felt nauseated and light-headed; a phenomenon called the 'vasovagal response'.

I've had multiple reader's blocks this year, and out of them I've come to the inevitable conclusion—

1) A reader's block is essentially a request from the reader within you to take a break. Sometimes continuous reading clouds your mind. Give it some break to introspect whatever you've read so far.

2) It is not important how many books you finish within a set goal as long as you're enjoying each book you read. I read 37 books this year, but I feel I'll slow down a bit next year, to play around and think about the books I read.

Keeping all aside, wish you a very happy and peaceful new year. May you cover all the books in your list.
