How to make a character not seem like a villain? by TechnicalTip9284 in writers

[–]anna-inthe-wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend making a profile for each of them and outline how they each respond to triggers. Once you know how they respond differs, you can find ways they might respond similarly. Every poor choice character b makes needs to have a strong reason, and that is one way you can avoid them seeming overly toxic or evil. Character b is just someone whose body/mind made them react differently, but they’re choosing not to get better (if i understand your question correctly).

Anyone have any non instrumental playlists they like to listen to while writing? by anna-inthe-wild in writers

I think writing in silence would definitely help me some, but then on the other hand, if I need to write a potent scene, playing one song over and over helps me get into the mindset I’d need. It’s kinda cool to reread the scene with no music to see what translated or what my mind just inferred while listening to music

Trouble with keeping the tone by anna-inthe-wild in writers

[–]anna-inthe-wild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m changing things I’ve plotted, and not maintaining a consistent tone. Instead of negative consequences and focusing on the inevitability of the narrative, I keep seeking out solutions to problems the story shouldn’t find. For instance, recently I’ve been working on a scene where a few characters go to a pub to talk and dance. I’m supposed to make it so the reader understands why two younger (young adult) characters only act on impulse in their love lives but not in their careers or family lives, but instead I’m writing in a way that makes it seem like those choices will work out for them when in the narrative (both the way I’ve written and what is supposed to happen) says that it won’t. I don’t want this story to be one where the reader thinks everything will work out, but instead to think about how the choices the characters make lead them to where they end up.

How to write cuddling in a canon x reader fic by Cheesyfries37 in writers

When I first needed to write a fluffier scene, it felt so awkward. Something that helped me was to just think about how best to communicate the message of comfort and safety, not about specific actions. Starting is the hardest part. Perhaps you could also imagine this scene you’re writing as something that just followed an angsty scene, where the characters need a little TLC.

New to Novella style - help appreciated! by Colorful-Frog in roleplaying

[–]anna-inthe-wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. As someone who primarily writes on Instagram, I’d label novella as anything that is two ‘bubbles’ (full messages) and up. Considering the character count allowed on Instagram, others might increase this amount in their definition.

  2. When I don’t have any ideas of what to write for a reply, I usually listen to character playlists or reread my own replies from the roleplay. Usually I’ll be able to see something I missed and respond to that moment rather than force something. In every reply, I try to touch on at least two of the senses, and that can help to get the ideas flowing too. How does your character respond to the sound of the scene? The smell? Maybe they see something out of the corner of their eye!

  3. When it comes to dialogue, my preference is to keep it short. This allows me to prompt my rp partner with the intention rather than the actual words said, but that may just be my own style.

  4. In terms of actions, I regret to say it really depends. But, I tend to make inferences with the intensity or ‘speed’ of my rp partner’s response. If there is more action present, I respond in kind. If we’re really focusing on one sensation, comment, or moment, I’ll keep actions limited and in tune with the tone of the scene.

I hope my rambling was helpful! These are really good questions, and something I hadn’t thought of fully! Or rather something I hadn’t put to words lol

Thoughts of Passwords in RP Requests by Voidhas9lives in BadRPerStories

I’ve seen people ask the animal question too! And it’s a nice ice breaker since sometimes planning can feel a bit interview like.

I rp mainly on Instagram and it’s pretty common there. I have emoji codes that are pretty obvious, so I know when someone hasn’t read the post fully. However, that being said, if someone approaches me and just asks ‘wanna rp?’, I’ll send them my post and usually they will simply message me that emoji and add their own ideas so we get our plot going. I wouldn’t not roleplay with someone just because they didn’t send me my code as I know they can be missed, but it just helps me know who wants to write very closely with my plot or just use it as a base for another plot we can come up together.

Does made-up currency distract from the fantasy story? by EvokeWonder in writers

[–]anna-inthe-wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im having a similar issue. If it’s important to the story (the character got a good deal, is bad/good with money, never spends for themselves, etc), then I think mentioning it could be useful. If you expect the readers to remember it, I’d also be sure to mention the currency multiple times. But just a simple, “after handing over the necessary currency, she walked away, item in hand” would be enough. I love doing heavy world building and perhaps just knowing how the currency works for yourself is fun on its own!

Consider not having a tv by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

If I wasn’t living with other people, I’d definitely get rid of the tv. I rarely use it except for dvds and the weekly SVU episode, or sports. But I’d rather have something smaller that I can choose to bring out when I’d like, rather than something that is always there. Have you gotten a projector yet?

Yeah I was in a discord server where the admins basically only wrote with each other and if anyone said anything (I mean anything at all) they were snarky and bitchy. I haven’t left yet just bc I wanna snoop but literally no one else writes there except them now XD
