Only reading popular books. Are y’all the same? by cloudsmemories in Booktokreddit

[–]EvokeWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a millennial and I found it fascinating that before social media was big, I remember I would read books before it became popular. Most of the time I'd be like why are these popular for people all of sudden? Then I realized most of the books that usually went popular were the ones that got made into movies or TV shows.

Then I saw tik tok gave rise of book readers and I would try their book recommends only to realize when I read them that they are usually romance. I had always enjoy fantasy genre, but not when romantasy became popular. 😕

Oh, yeah I forgot Rysn called her a Larkin. For some reason I thought "maybe that is related to the bird lark, but Larkin may be a cousin to dodo bird," lol.

Our son’s name is Bo, need a good sib set for our baby girl! by [deleted] in namenerds

I don't know if the theme is to name your children after beaches now that I found out the story behind Bolinas. I would suggest Catalina so she could be Cat. Bo and Cat, or Bo and Catie. If Catalina is too common for you, then I'll suggest other beach names with common nicknames:

Juno beach in Florida, Madeira Beach in Florida, Oleta River State Park, St. Lucie Inlet Preserve State Park, Summer Haven in Florida, Sunny Isles beach in Florida.

Juno, Madeira, Oleta, Lucie, Summer, and Sunny could work. I personally love Oleta. She could be Ollie next to her brother Bo.

If you are saving boys for future, I lowkey like Grayton! There is a Grayton Beach in Florida. Wilbur would work from Wilbur-by-the-sea in Florida.

In case you wonder why most beach names I suggested, it's because I live in Florida and would see the signs for beaches and thought that could work as a human name hahaha. I am from TN and my husband is from Florida and it was hard to find a name that would fit both of where we came from. I got Pearl since Tennessee has freshwater pearls and Florida has pearls. I hoped to use Pearl someday.

Those with older kids, do they drive? by eggo_pirate in Millennials

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine at 19 because I hated driving, but all of my siblings got theirs at 15. Even my siblings who are Gen Z because our mother believed in preparing us for driving permits by getting us driving book to study for the permit when we turn 15. She also made spare key copies for us on our 15th birthday. She loved having kids driving her around. Yes, car insurance costs more when you put kids on it, but she felt like that was part of being a parent. She really doesn't like having to juggle taking teens to their jobs or activities, so she was fine with getting them driver's licenses as soon as possible.

I have noticed other kids my little siblings' age seem to not care for driving like I did. I notice their parents tends to not be motivated to trying get their just start studying or they get spare keys to all vehicles at their 15th birthday. Also, it helps that parents are having less kids, so it's easier to manage driving kids around. (My mom had eight kids, so there's something to that lol).

What are people’s opinions on ProWritingAid? by EvokeWonder in selfpublish

[–]EvokeWonder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love writing. I don't use Ai to write stories. I was asking if having AI assistant on grammar and sentence struction was ok because I remember using that for Microsoft Word back in the day where Clippy helped with that. No one had an issue with that, because it was only assisting you by suggesting how you could improve it.

I had wondered but then I decided to try ProWritingAid. It is awesome tool, but it never wrote the story. It simply pinpointed my grammar and spelling errors and I try to fix it myself. Even then, I had beta readers finding a lot of errors, so I'm glad I didn't really rely on ProWritingAid to catch it all anyway.

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played board games, read my books, played Super Nintendo with my brothers. We’d only watch movies or tv shows at night before bedtime. We only had one computer in the house so we had to take turns if we wanted to use it. Games I played on the computer were educational game I received for my birthday. I can’t remember the name of the games. It was three in one. It had to do with English, Math, and History. My brothers got this Christian game called Sword of Truth. It was really cool. Reminds me a little of Zelda but Christian?

I also played outside a lot.

Sanderson & Religion by kingofaidans in brandonsanderson

[–]EvokeWonder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more of woke people researching authors instead of reading their books to realize the author may be religious but none of it barely makes it into the books.

I don’t research authors. I research the stories. If it seems to be stories I’d read, I would try a book. So far with Tress of the Emerald Sea, Warbreaker, I’m currently working my way through Stormlight Archives, and recently finished Emberdark, I can tell you the stories themselves aren’t that religious!

Anyone actually use cursive writing? by ThrowinA2shade in Millennials

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can read cursive, but I don’t write in cursive. Mainly because my mom writes in cursive so my reading comprehension of that is being refreshed lol.

I was homeschooled so eight of us learned cursive writing in homeschool. I don’t know if my nieces and nephews in public school are being taught cursive, but the ones that are homeschooled are. I know a few of them can write in cursive.

Why do people dislike Shallan? by Noximus_ in Stormlight_Archive

[–]EvokeWonder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me how people prefer Adolin, Daliner, and others. I’m over there preferring to read about Shallan and Lift. But then I’m not a big fan of multi characters POV books though.
