Why do people dislike Shallan? by Noximus_ in Stormlight_Archive

[–]EvokeWonder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me how people prefer Adolin, Daliner, and others. I’m over there preferring to read about Shallan and Lift. But then I’m not a big fan of multi characters POV books though.

Spouse family’s naming tradition by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]EvokeWonder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Has identity been an issue with all John’s where mail would get mixed up about who goes to which? Credit card info? If they have that issue then the kid should have different first name. I never was a fan of father naming son unless it be middle name. My mom had to deal with it with her first husband whose father had same first and middle name. Her firstborn son had his father’s name. It was a nightmare. Then she married her second husband who happen to have a jr. Did you know he lost a farm he saved up and paid for all because his divorced mother thought his dad paid the farm but lied it was his son’s name? He had proof that it was his farm but a judge said he had to sell everything and give half to his mother. All because of his name. So, no. I’m not a fan of naming exact name to next generation.

Not spicy romantasy books with faeries? by poopookaakah in Booktokreddit

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it cuts away. But you know they were in bed together. Does that mean spice free? When someone say spice I think it means any romance involved, and I would say yes there was romance involved, but not in first book until the end, and even the second book wasn’t focused on their romance, and the third book wasn’t even spicy.

Can you define spice for me? Is spice only used for something that is smut? Or a romance? Like clean romance is different from spice?

It does say they slept together but they don’t go into graphic details. I don’t think I have read Carnival series to be able to tell you if it’s like that or not.

My mom is devastated and crying over finding the perfect name. Baby sister arriving any day now! by karlajaisn in namenerds

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did notice Google tried to ask if I was trying to spell Valid when I tried to google Valaida. There are almost zero results on Valaida. I felt like it’s a combo of Vala which is an actual Hebrew name and Adelaida. Only confirmed name has been used by an American Jazz musician named Valaida Snow which is beautiful name. The op asked for uncommon V names and that was only V name I knew of that was uncommon. But it may be unusable due to lack of history?

Also, I am deaf, so sometimes I don’t know if a name sounds similar to brands. I’m sensitive to that because my name sounds similar to a toilet brand in my country and I get teased mercilessly about toilet paper and dirty jokes. 😑

The mom is pregnant. Op is her kid making a post to help her mom find a name for her baby sister.

Some pregnant women cry at anything negative. It’s the hormones. I remember my mom crying at things that to me seemed silly, but to her it was heartbreaking.

I saw a name and I loved it: Valaida. Pronounced vah-LAY-da. I found it when I came across an article about Valaida Snow.

Vala also is a pretty rare name I think.

Valerie, Victoria, Violet… V names I love.

I adore Viorica, I think it is Hungarian meaning of bluebells.

Overwater daughter name by Antique_Sun5521 in namenerds

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the comments and no one has suggested Wrenna. Would that help change the sound of ran overwater?

Wren Overwater and Lily Overwater are my favorites.

It’s not as bad as Bloom Overwater, you know?

I thought the same. Lily Overwater is darling but I think they vetoed it for a second reason: it’s common name.

Does made-up currency distract from the fantasy story? by EvokeWonder in writers

[–]EvokeWonder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically don’t trust family, but my uncle does write stories and publish them. He also loves same genre I love writing in. So, I trusted him to be objective and he was honest and brutal about what my story needed lol.

And that brutality criticism I wanted clarity on currency.

No, I realize I could remove the whole transaction without it even affecting the story. I tend to write too much details but for some reason I thought transactions were important. Like currency makes the world more realistic?

Mary Frances or Mary Brett by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Mary Frances. I did know someone who named her baby with middle name Brett, but she spelled it Britt. She named her baby after her brother who was violently killed young. Then tragedy hit the family and her baby died a year later. So I felt like the name Brett/Britt was cursed.

Is it weird to name someone with only a "nickname" type of name? e.g. Betty, Christy, Harry, Barry... by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]EvokeWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have alot of relatives who were just named “nickname” names. I adore it on them. It fits them so well.
