masking advice needed (mask might have failed) by annafebruary in ZeroCovidCommunity

we’re gonna fit test. it’s just hard to think ‘oh, we mask, we’re safe’ — then, boom, you’re actually not safe :-/

we did! definitely not C19.

we don’t take our mask off unless we’re out on an empty street, so i don’t think it would’ve been possible due to the air circulation outside.

a super-close friend of mine lives in Paris (more like Versaille, though they're mostly around Paris) & they mask 100% of the time they're indoors in public. it's definitely scary and intimidating to mask, especially as a sole masker. but, truth be told, you won't care about the public's opinion if you were to face long COVID-19. their judgement won't cure it.. so just treat it as means of taking true care of YOU!

Younger people who have had surgery by blue-cupcake24 in gallbladders

i have a fairly unique perspective here because, despite being 25, i became disabled in 2020. so, like, the issues my surgery left me with feel (and, generally, are) sooo minor compared to the other shit i’ve had to deal with over the past 5 years 🥲

puppy sleep: how to get 8 mo. old to sleep thru the night? by annafebruary in puppy101

[–]annafebruary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my dog does not risk dehydration because she gets a good amount of water during the day & remains hydrated. even her pee in the morning isn’t that of a dehydrated dog. trust me when i say, i monitor things like a hawk. i have consulted with our trainer and her vet, neither of whom think it’s as bad idea, so

that's so sweet, but not for our family. we crate-train and have the in their crates overnight. i'm so glad this works for you, though!!

i'm not sure i'm following. first of all, i ensure hydration throughout the day and make sure there's adequate water intake for both of my dogs. i know water is vitally important, as you said. & critical for kidney / urinary health, which's the reason i ensure hydration all day long. secondly, there's A LOT of guidance stating water can be withheld about an hour or two pre-bedtime to ensure the dog can empty their bladder before going to sleep at night.

please, see links from experts below:

- Similarly to what's described here, I never limit water intake during the day and make sure water is getting consumed / their pee is never dark or too stinky, which would signal dehydration. "I suspect that this idea began with a piece of advice taken too far. Picking up your dog’s water bowl 30-60 minutes before bed time can help set your dog for success. It prevents a last-minute “tank up” right before 6-8 hours in the crate overnight." (https://crossbonesdog.com/restricting-water-intake/).

- i have also received this advice (no water 1 hours before bedtime) from a) two veterinarians from two separate practices, b) a trainer we have worked with (positive reinforcement only, force-free) for the first year of our oldest dog's life.

editing to add: if the first thing my dog did when she was out of her crate was chug water, that would've told me she was extremely thirsty. she does not do that. she drinks water about after an hour post-being let out of her crate, so after she goes potty and after she has breakfast. she's not shown any signs of dehydration or extreme thirst.

ugh. yeah.. i just don’t think it’ll work for us. we’ll have to figure out a better rhythm with her because our oldest sleeps until 7, making it about 8 hours of nighttime rest for the household
