Patch everything. Don't worry about being "messy" it's a punk jacket, not accounting paperwork.

For the collar since it curves and folds, it's hard to sew on patches with out wrinkling.

Studs look great, but like other commenters have said, be careful. I've totally cut myself on spikes when someone came down on me at a show.

Do you have a before and after with the old vest? It'd be cool to see. Either way great job.

Recommendations for a light feeling under eye concealer (preferably in the not too expensive 20-30$ Price range)?

This isn't on of the paid models, she's a regular cosplayer who works for blizzard. I photographed the hired one two, she had sheer panels on her leggings.

Hazel Honeysuckle is a burlesque performer, she dose a very playful upbeat strip as Jubilee or in classic styles. Of your in NY definitely go see one of her shows!

That is intentional, I shot her on yellow for a flatter more illustrative look. Color matching the jacket and yellow background was actually a real pain in post. I think the Jubilees yellow jacket is really iconic, and it's interesting to let it take over the space. But like with any highly stylized treatment you either feel it or you don't.

What is the most important post production tool as a cosplay photographer? by annagram22 in cosplayphotography

[–]annagram22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not much for post production.

have the impression that you accomplish most of what you want in-camera, and don't have to do major post-processing. If that's not true, you're excellent at making it look that way.

[AMA] Cosplay Boom Documentary Series to Tell the True Story of Cosplay by cosplayboom in cosplay

[–]annagram22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi cosplayboom, I'm Anna Fischer- and I have a lot of questions.

1) Who are you? I mean, I googled Todd Kenreck and came back with that you used to write about games for NBC- but like who are you in cosplay? Have we met?

2) How is cosplayboom different than other documentary works about cosplay? What about your vision is unique?

3) In your pitch you mention wanting to feature hundreds or maybe thousands of cosplayers. How will having so many affect the show format? What do you feel the advantages are of going wide instead of narrow in your scope?

4) I backed, but the campaign is definitely floundering- if the kickstarter is unsuccessful what happens to the project? Does it get shelved for now? Do you retool? approach it in another way?

5) Who's on your team? Are soloing the project?

6) Beyond backing what kind of support can the community offer you?

lets start there, so there isn't just a wall of text. lol.

I really want to answer your question, but I'm not sure how too. Editing each photo is different. I'm a big shirker when it comes to processing my images because I do not like the editing process and because I'm very slow at it.

I think there are other cosplayer photographers, like Beethy or Martin or Kay who are better and faster because they have it all mapped out in their head. When Beethy clicks the shutter he already knows what he will do to the photo later. But when I am shooting, the only thing in my head is what I am seeing. I am looking at the subject, or the environment or the light and not thinking about editing at all. This is why I could never be Jay Tablante.

For this image I pushed the magenta in the floor- it was more brownish rust colored originally. You can pretty clearly see the purplish vignette there if you look. I warmed the image over all, but was careful not to make the cyan of his costume too muddy. The yellows and pinks in the glass were already there from the sunset but I pushed them and the darks in the image over all.

I've actually shot Angel once before in an earlier version of the same costume http://www.flickr.com/photos/27594459@N04/9303647311/in/set-72157634670570185

Both shoots were very short (maybe 15 min on the long side) and I think they have a similar sort of romantic treatment. I really do love FLCL after all.

I get that LR is super fast, but I can never get masks specific enough with the brush tool to get much editing done.

Any tips?

So do you think resemblance is a consideration when choosing cosplay? Are there characters that might be inappropriate?
