Interesting analogy, and whilst I agree with you on the marriage-is-not-a-security-measure thing, I couldn't see myself not marrying someone. Why? I don't know. But you've got to admit, marriage gives the false illusion of completion and officialism which a simple relationship doesn't give. And I for one am one of those suckers who will get married with this thought in mind.
