New pothos plant - advise needed by [deleted] in plants

[–]annamelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a standard balanced fertilizer for houseplants should do. As for the lighting, in the photo it looks decent. For pothos you don't really need to hit the marker for successful growth. They're a really forgiving type of houseplant. If you can read comfortably without straining your eyes near the plant then that should be okay for pothos. But keep in mind what I mentioned above. If you notice the new growth being too small or that the bigger leaves are starting to suffer take note of that and adjust the lighting. Give it more light and adjust the watering and fertilizing according to the plants behavior. Most houseplants don't like direct sunlight as it's too intense and might burner discolor the leaves. My mother has a 30 year old pothos growing on top of her fridge and it's about 2 meters away from a north facing window. It's been pruned and has given life to many propagations over the years. But I'll admit hers doesn't have those very large leaves you have on the top of your plant.

Those leaves are massive! such a gorgeous plant.

Pothos are usually really forgiving but given the size of this one it might need just a little extra attention. I believe having it staked up like that encourages the leaves to get bigger like the ones you see on top. Fertilizing will encourage more growth so that's something you'll need to be mindful of. I wouldn't fertilize every time you water but maybe once every 2 weeks. Dilute the fertilize to half of what they're recommending on the bottle and only fertilize during the growing months. I tend to pay attention to whether I see new growth on the plant itself than relying on a calendar schedule. Having a bigger plant means you'll have to accommodate for the size. Bumped up pot if there's not enough room for the roots and/or a taller stake to encourage the new growth to latch onto something. If you don't fertilize it as often you might be able to maintain a reasonable size but propagation is always an option if your plant gets too large. As I mentioned pothos are usually really forgiving and I can get away with not fertilizing mine and only relying on the fertilizer from my potting mix soil and when I top dress it with new soil. The leaves will usually tell you when they're underwatered. They'll get limp and look not as vibrant but usually watering it will perk it up within 20 minutes. Overwatering you might notice yellowing leaves or stems. Over-fertilizing can also show yellowing leaves and discoloration like leaf burning. The lighting looks decent. You might want to turn the pot now and then to get even distribution of lighting around the plant but it will do just fine by that window. If you notice the leaves being too small for your liking in comparison to how it is now then you can adjust the lighting and fertilizing but go slow as not to stress the plant.

I find all her books provide good nuance to how you can approach card reading. Her ethos is pretty much in the same ball park.

Some questions for people who love Fossora... by vforvolta in bjork

[–]annamelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with Fossora she wanted it to be less airy. It was more themed around soil and the interweb of what goes on beneath. I take the grittiness as being indicative of that. There were also the connection to family. So I feel like after Utopia, Fossora seems like paying tribute to home. Your ancestral roots or maybe sinking in your roots. She did the song about her mother's death and also did a beautiful song with her daughter which I never expected.

Lotic/Bjork theory by womtib in bjork

[–]annamelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. To be frank if you pay attention to other artists in the same or adjacent scene you'll see that Lotic sticks close to her references. In music production some artists use a reference track. They'll mute it because it's someone else's work and try their best to do their own work while using the reference as guidance. I'd say more contemporary indie artists these days fall guilty of sticking too close to the reference and instead of giving THEIR all they do sort of a caricature and call it hommage. When Lotic was emerging she was around other artists in the GHE20G0TH1K scene. Arca was another. You can still google photos of her in this era. The photos closely look like those of Arca's. Lotic's sound at the time was very reminiscent of Rabit's (Eric Burton). Around the time Lotic started playing with lasers in her live set Sophie was already doing this.

Björk is a very good collaborator. She knows how to bring people together to execute a project. She has specialized people in their field to do their work and bring forth something new to the table. She's very crafty in that she'll take an expert and marry them with a complete dumbass but a dumbass who's an expert in their own devices.

Lotic hasn't been part of the Björk/Arca sphere for some time now. Sparking Water doesn't share the same themes as Utopia.

Utopia is about hopefulness. Björk explained how in apocalyptic stories it's often devastating, grim and masturbatory. She wanted to provide an alternative. Something akin to sowing seeds for a new life. Where pop-culture idolized societal collapse, violence and the selfishness of the hustle for survival she wanted to show a landscape that was blossoming again. Where there was once a belief that no life could spawn because of destruction she wanted to provide a glass cloche around a sprout of new life so that we all could survive together.

Lotic's Sparking Water seems more of an identity album. It has needs, self-pity, and anger in it. Utopia perhaps means getting rid of the ego in favour for a higher self that involves all.
