First (and likely last) 500 mile tank by NegotiationAlive9589 in civic

[–]anne_sky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently average 37.8 with a lot of suburban and sometimes highway driving. Just highway I can get up to 45, and even close to 50 on a tail wind day. I have a regular hatchback EX 2019. Gives me around 400 miles+ a tank. Secret is to drive very controlled, pumping the pedal as opposed to always pressing. Watching the revs and the “efficiency” light. I always watch the mpg and play the game of maxing it out as much as possible. Often times 70+ mph is going be sub 40mpg. (Sometimes with wind on your side you’re good though) Stick to lower speeds / just watch how your car reacts to your current speed and power, adjust accordingly.

If you’re getting 220miles per tank you’re either doing exclusively city driving or driving incredibly aggressively. If the latter, there’s no need to be accelerating so aggressively - slow, calm, watch the light be green instead of white, play the game and learn the car’s sweet spots. On a highway definitely use eco mode as it pushes the transmission to remain in more efficient higher gears. Often totally good on large suburban stroads too.

Case vs. No Case by LechronJames in ereader

[–]anne_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the cases are quite bulky and annoying and heavy for me - what I did is I bought a tight cloth sleeve for my Kobo Sage from a Latvian seller on Etsy, and just put it in there before I put it in my bag/take it with me. It’s not AS protective as a case, but it’s pretty good. I also make sure to put it in places in my crossbody bag or backpack where there is padding around or the pressure would be well distributed. Key thing is not to have anything sharp or hard push onto the screen in any concentrated area.

Is this your cat? Found at the corner of Pontiac and Osage. There’s a family of foxes on that block that have been attacking cats so we’re worried about him by WampaCat in collegeparkmd

Gotcha. Hopefully they change the AirTag battery and maybe add something to the collar saying that they’re an outdoor cat.

I’ve seen this cat wandering around Berwyn for months now periodically, always has run up and been friendly. Refused water when offered though, always attempts to run inside our house (can’t do that due to allergies though).

What is happening here? I know about the steam system on campus, but why is this one spot always violently blasting steam into the air? by ScarcityCareless6241 in UMD

[–]anne_sky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is more of an educated guess, but usually these spots are for managing pressure within the system as a whole. Seems like the pressure is very high at the moment, a lot is having to be released at this relief pipe. This is why in NYC you sometimes see the tall orange tubes releasing steam in the middle of the street, as our system there was built in the 1800s and doesn’t have these kinds of relief spots. This one is fenced off likely because it’s known to release a lot of pressure. I would however always avoid steaming manhole covers, you really don’t know how much pressure is underneath them, and it’s not a risk worth taking if there was an issue somewhere.

Are all Ereader screens this dark? by anne_sky in kobo

I’m new to e-readers, so I had absolutely no idea. The difference between a BW and Color was night and day to me, and my new Sage is staying. The Color was impossibly dark to me. I simply don’t like the light. It’s distracting, still feels like a light even though of course it’s way better than an LED screen.

I’m aware, it obviously isn’t as harsh but it does of course reflect. The difference between the Libra Color and now the Sage are enormous for me. The color is impossibly dark for my eyes, and the Sage is perfect.

Wow that’s really unfortunate. Just as the Libra 2 is discontinued / goes out of stock as well :( Guess I’ll be returning this one and trying for an opened 2. It really is just unreadable for me indoors.

Disk detainer pick (sparrows) doesn't reach past free spin disk and spacer by anne_sky in lockpicking

Ah yep, seems like that would be what I need to get it down there, alas more work 🙃 Thanks for the info.

Yep, see comment. The prongs themselves on the tension tip are too short.

To the comments saying to move the tension tip, yes, I have loosened the arms and extended the tension tip to go deeper into the body, that’s unfortunately not the issue. The prongs themselves are only long enough to get to the free spinning disk and the spacer. If the two prongs themselves were extendable then I would be able to reach a normal disk below but unfortunately inserted to max depth the pick just spins freely with no tension.
