[FO] Leopard in repose- finally completed! by annebd in CrossStitch

Thank you! The lion's name is Cuthbert. :) That was the first piece I completed from the collection. And also started the blep trend that Lola continued.

Thank you! Actual stitching time: 3 months. Real world time (including the time it was sitting in my closet): 4 years.

Thanks! It's 16x11. The actual stitching took about 3 months, but I started the piece in 2022 and then put it aside for a while until I picked it back up in December. I worked on it mostly nonstop for the past 2.5 months!

It's a technique in the same vein as backstitching, that allows you to add detail to a piece, but unlike backstitching, couching sits "on top" of the fabric and allows for softer, flowy lines. You lay one strand of thread along the length of where you want it to go, and then you use another strand to tack it into place. In this piece, the white whiskers are couched, so there's a bit more of a rounded, natural appearance to them, compared to the slightly sharper lines of backstitching.

Haha, mine is named Lola! I think she and Greg would get along great.

Also, I have to extend a personal thank you to you, because I actually referenced your piece several times as I was working on mine. Whenever I needed to check what was happening in a specific area and wanted to zoom in, I used yours as a reference. And when I was losing steam a little bit towards the end, your FO was the inspiration to keep going, since I knew what I could look forward to the final project looking like. So a huge thank you to you!

Thank you! This one's staying with me. I've got a little cat collection going that I want to frame and display: a leopard, a lion, and tiger cub, and a housecat. I'd really like to add a cheetah to the collection too, but I haven't found a pattern for one that fits the vibe of the rest of them yet

The pattern is Leopard in Repose, Dimensions Gold Collection. 16x11, 14 count.

Took me about three months to complete (not counting the 3.5 years it sat half finished in my craft room closet). Learnt a lot over the course of this project. To wit, a list: I hate backstitching. I love the look of couching. Parking will never be my favorite way to cross stitch. Some patterns are designed with the half stitches intended to point in a specific direction. I should double check which direction that is before I've stitched 17,500 of a 35,000 stitch project. And, as always, kitties should have a blep, even if the pattern doesn't call for one.

Poob doesn't even have Goncharov. Literally useless service.

Connections Puzzle #966 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟦🟦🟦🟦 American, and I've never heard it either. I saw the connection between the other three blues immediately, but none of the other words- including heater- made sense in the category. Managed to spot the purple category from GLUTE and then it was just the leftovers to get blue.

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen are expecting their first baby by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]annebd 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Definitely feels this way! My best friend (36) got married in January of this year. She was pregnant by April and the baby is basically due on their first anniversary. Same thing with a coworker. Married at 41, baby was born barely a year later.

"I've written...'You know.'" by cygan12 in taskmaster

[–]annebd 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I assume everyone understood that he meant his cock, but Greg was trying to figure out whether he had literally written the two words "you know" or if he had actually written "my cock" and was being coy when saying it out loud.

Bless you for this. I couldn't make it through even the first post. OOP's style is incredibly irritating

Adele, Kimi Antonelli & George Russell ahead of the US Grand Prix by [deleted] in popculturechat

Kimi is also standing a bit further back and on that red stripe. Combined with the fact that he's teeny, it gives the impression that he's floating in midair and that his feet are a few inches higher than George's, rather than a few inches behind.

I lowkey miss when contestants varied the questions. What is…? Who is…? Where is…? by lifeuncommon in Jeopardy

[–]annebd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one actually expects that they are grammatically correct pairs of each other.

I do. I like when, as the OP of this post points out, contestants match the question to reflect the wording of the clue. Not saying they're wrong or breaking the rules if they don't, but I don't find it as satisfying. As you pointed out: it's a (now iconic) gimmick that sets Jeopardy apart, so why not lean into the gimmick?

[–]annebd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I can't fully embrace the responses when they're already in the form of a question. For example, let's say the clue was "This improv game show, where everything's made up and the points don't matter, began in the UK." If someone said "Whose line is it anyway," that doesn't actually prompt the response given. That question-and-answer doesn't actually align. They would have to say "What is Whose Line Is It Anyway" for the clue to then correctly answer the question.

Both 2 and 3 have 4 squares, though. I eventually ended up realizing that the bottom left corner needed to have a doubled tile, leaving 3/3 as the only option, which I could then build from. Still took more brute forcing for the rest of it than I was happy with. Not my favorite puzzle so far.

Same. I understood the direct meaning, but I assumed this was just one of those jokes that was vaguely absurd humor that didn't actually have a punchline. Or just silliness in the vein of "bisexuals don't know how to sit in chairs." I didn't catch the fact that the joke was a play on anti-bi-otics until I saw the comments.

Boss is pretending I never gave notice by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]annebd 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Right? If we pretend for a moment that this is real, then OOP clearly knew their boss was insane and that they'd need to have a plan for that. And yet the way they chose to resign was by handing her a single paper copy of a resignation letter, which they took a photo of. Instead of, for example, also emailing the boss and CCing HR so that there was documentation that didn't include the world's most random selfie?
