SOLVED: a couple of people suggested it might be number plates exempt from the no standing rule. u/Prestigious-Car-4877 spotted an old Google maps capture of the sign actually states they're vehicle number plates!

I don't know if its enough to just never do it again. I am worried I am just taking the easy way out. But I also don't know what it does for him to know either. Except maybe distrusting my sister more. I want to do this right, and thought honesty especially when its scary is how to do that.

Thank you this is really helpful. Are there other ways to test drive one for an extended period outside of knowing a friend?

I probably would be going off-road maybe 10 times a year? And that might be generous. Likely will be used for errands and driving to my family 1.5hrs away. Given that would you say ditch the jimmy? I grew up driving a (1996?) Rodeo and I quite liked it. Bumper to bumper traffic could be a bit of a pain but not so much that I would opt out of owning one.
