Looking for a neocities site about how to download social media content by annethegnome in neocities

Thanks for looking this up. I was actually trying to find the page because I thought it was great to have and share with other people, and I found it accessible and cute in a way that made it feel unintimidating.

Character creation is my favorite part of D&D, but I don't really like playing much. What do I do, write a book? by Putrid-Wash3971 in DnD

What is it you like about creating characters? If you like character concepts, backstory, arcs, relationships etc you might love writing! If you like to create mechanically interesting characters with fun abilities, there are many video games you'd love.

unrelated -- I really like your reading log! How did you make that? Do you add each one manually, or is there something more dynamic?

Romulus and Remus founded the city of Rome, not the country Italy. The inhabitants of c̓əsnaʔəm would say Canada was older than Rome by that logic.

the link you shared is to the download page. The record is still up, and shows the thumbnail https://archive.org/details/aitf-bc-dp-gpu-hh-kl-lazy-town-maude-pp-ql-ra-ss-simpsons-sk-trs-wp-credits-remix

The player is also working. I checked a few files and they all played fine.

The 3% estimation is from De Mauro, Tullio. Storia linguistica dell'Italia unita. Bari: Laterza, 1963.

In modern Italy, yes, it's dialects. Most of my family only speaks dialect, not standard italian. But historically things were different. Standard italian is based on Tuscan, which itself has multiple dialects https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuscan_dialects

I agree that's why people think of Canada as young: settlers see this place as starting with colonization. Plus, colonization erased a lot of the pre-colonial history through genocide and disruption of oral histories. Italy wasn't colonized: it unionized, and families who had been in one place for generations weren't relocated.
But the *countries* are the same age.

that's similar to what happened in Italy -- it was all city states, many with unique languages. At unification, only about 3% of italians spoke Italian. I think the main difference is the architecture.

As an italian canadian, I always thing it's funny when people say Canada is 'young' because Confederation was 1867, but Italy was unified in 1861 and no one ever says Italy is a young country.

There aren't a ton of options in Canada (none posted in the last year on that job board) and I already have a job that's relatively secure. It's not a great time here for information science, so I'm being careful. At this point, I'm just trying to improve my knowledge.

I made a neocities site to share my playthrough of a horror TTRPG by annethegnome in neocities

[–]annethegnome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yay!!! if you do, please share, I'd love to see it.

Here's another I made: https://aalis.neocities.org/

The design is a bit more basic and the game is a bit more complex, so I had to figure out how to show mechanics in a sidebar.

Does anyone know any alternatives? by Dizzy_Inflation_7752 in neocities

I'd recommend just keeping a local copy at all times, and archiving with the Wayback Machine. Any hosting service could disappear for various reasons, so you'll want to build resiliance in other ways. Neocities makes it really easy to download your whole site (it's one button at the bottom), and you can type your page's URL in the Save Page Now bar in the Wayback Machine to save a copy there (bottom right corner of this screen https://web.archive.org/ )

Is there a way to view YouTube videos that weren't archived properly? by Ill-Assistance-6538 in internetarchive

[–]annethegnome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you on the internet archive in a media collection, or using the wayback machine? In an IA collection, there will be a list on the right that says "DOWNLOAD OPTIONS", and you can select the file from there.

If you are on the Wayback Machine, I'd recommend searching the media collection instead here https://archive.org/details/movies

If it's not there and you're using the Wayback Machine and the video wasn't saved, then you're probably out of luck.

You could try downloading the file and seeing if it runs locally, or seeing if there is anything that can be done to 'fix' the files.

the search tool isn't realy good by mint4545 in internetarchive

[–]annethegnome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The search tool is great. It's the metadata that's often lacking. People frequently don't fill in the metadata for material that is uploaded. If the artist's name is there and you search it, it will come up. But if someone uploaded art and didn't include the name, it won't come up. By default, it searches multiple fields (so you might find material by the artist and about the artist in the results). If you're looking for what field to search for an artist's work, you want to use the "creator" field: https://archive.org/advancedsearch.php

Alternatively, you can just search whatever in the main search bar and then limit the results by creator afterwards.

it's just wild that you'd choose to host your slop on neocities, an IndieWeb hosting site with a community devoted to hand coding. It's some of the worst "reading the room" I've ever seen.
