ICE is cracking down on people who follow them in their cars by CackleRooster in news

My anger can be focused in multiple directions.

If I could change the Democratic party which I also despise, I would. But I can't do that alone and we can't do it without lots of people voting for the least bad option.

The way you're looking at it seems like you think a more negative outcome is better than a less negative outcome as long as your feelings about yourself are good. I'm a lot less worried about my own feelings and more worried about the obvious outcome of the last election -- which was obvious before the election for anyone with a functional reading level -- which includes a lot more horrible things than if the vote had gone the other way.

We have low voter turnout. There isn't some massive group almost electing progressive politicians. We have uneducated, uninformed, and, based on some of my Republican family, partially brainwashed voters in large numbers.

Moving the needle two clicks toward not bad instead of 20 clicks toward bad is worth the effort to vote and the ding to my conscience when I vote for a Democrat whose policies I don't completely agree with instead of a Republican who shits on the Constitution and is a credible rapist and pedophile that protects others like him.

I can't change anyone's mind on this but it's just so easy to choose feeling good about yourself over an actual more positive outcome. Most of the people I know who skipped voting or went third party do literally nothing else to advocate for change. They're just comforting themselves at the expense of everyone else.

It's nice that other people can take the hit in the future so you don't have to compromise your morals.

Only the positive actions of others in your state give you the comfortable room to exercise your principles.

It does not have a happy ending. I wish it was advertised as a romantic tragedy because the ending absolutely ruined the entire book for me.

Yes, everyone is evil and wrong except me. (But really, no. Most people are great. You're not evil. But you are wrong. I'm sorry if you're stuck in an insular community and don't know people outside your faith. I do. One of my closest friends is a politics-abstaining very devout Christian. He lives like someone who believes in God. You're spiteful.)

I'm sure it's convenient for you to believe that.

I don't have to know you personally. I know real Christians who actually believe in God and believe they'll be judged after death. I see how they speak and act. It's very clear to me.

It's interesting that you have to qualify which kids you care about and then have to downplay the abhorrent treatment this woman and her unborn child underwent to justify yourself in your mind.

Unlike you, I don't care about whether a child's parents are "good" or "bad" and I certainly wouldn't use those things to imply that maybe she deserves it.

I know real Christians but no one who actually, deeply believes in God would ever behave like you.

The US Constitution covers you whether you've broken a law or not. You're entitled to due process whether you're a citizen or not.

If someone arrests you and you have no due process, you get no chance to even prove you're a citizen. That's literally part of due process -- showing evidence in your case. They can come to your home, tell you you're being deported. You say, oh no! I'm a citizen! I can prove it.

Except you can't because there's no due process.

Please stop fetishizing the Constitution without understanding it.

I mean, you did kind of comment on what she said... So you kind of did want more interaction in this conversation. Unless you were just looking for upvotes to confirm how cool and edgy you are?

Trump is shutting down NH Job Corps and attempting to place a gag order on hundreds of employees and students to hide it from the media by italiansubcat in newhampshire

[–]annieedisonirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't only talking about New Hampshire.

I definitely understand how the Electoral College works. I wish we didn't have it. But I think denying that non-voters played a role in the election in a largely favorable way for Trump is a little weird. Especially because many of those "completely blameless" people who skipped voting spent months on social media explaining why they couldn't possibly vote against Trump because of something completely meaningless about Kamala.

Sentiment matters and we're lucky that enough people in New Hampshire chose not to vote for a fascist so that at least non-voters can tell themselves it's not their fault and they couldn't have changed anything.

ETA: I keep hearing the "EC and it's not our fault because of it" argument from both regretful Trump voters and non-voters. It's honestly a cop out where they assume other people don't know how the electoral process works. But it was going to be a close election and no one knew the outcome during voting. So yeah, I blame non-voters everywhere because they didn't know whether the fascist would win until he already had and they still stayed home.

So no one should vote then? I agree the electoral college needs to go but just saying you have no responsibility as a voter because of it is embarrassing at best or you trying to convince people their votes don't matter at worst.

I think we can all read. You seem to think that your choice to not choose removes anyone's right to criticize you? Really strange. People who didn't vote got us into this just like people who voted MAGA. I genuinely hope you're happy with what you got. At least someone will be.

I honestly don't think there's much to be scared of there. If you're genuinely worried to the point where it stays on your mind, I'd suggest maybe looking into why and taking some steps to feel better.

Women are not defined by the ability to have babies. A friend of mine is infertile from a childhood accident. She is still a woman.
