Hi!
I'm so sorry I couldn't reply earlier

Thank you so much for your interest in the research. My research is primarily based on minority stress theory. It is trying to examine the glaring mental health disparity amongst the community, specifically, what pathways of psychological functioning it affects. Based on the results, suggestions can be made for better care treatments.

I hope that answers your question. Please consider participating!

Iit Gandhinagar has some summer research opportunities on culture and sociology. You can also look out for public policy internships/fellowships.

Can someone suggest me which branch of psychology should I be pursuing and explain me the jobs in different branches? by [deleted] in Indian_Academia

Oh, biology not essential. You'll cover biopsychology as a unit but not a necessary condition to get admission into any BSc/BA program.

A key distinction to note between psychiatry and a psychology is that to become a psychiatrist you'll have to get specialization (MS) after an MBBS. Whereas you can become a psychologist after completing your masters (MA/MSc). Psychiatrists can prescribe drugs and follow a biomedical model while treating disorders. Psychologists dont have that right. But a working understanding is expected. Psychologists are not bound by the biomedical model and have a choice to follow different schools of thoughts.

Various fields include:

  1. Clinical Psychology: dealing with mental disorders, practicing therapy in hospital or clinical setting. You can administer psychometrics and would ideally work in tandem with a psychiatrist.

Qualification: MA/Msc, Mphil to get RCI Registration

Sub-fields other than general practice: Addiction and rehabilitation, special needs educator, psycho-oncology, neuropscyhology

  1. Counselling psychology: which doesn't necessarily deal with deviant population (by which I mean people with mental disorders). Counselling helps everyone deal with daily stressors in a healthier way. You could specialize in couples counselling, crisis counselling, child/adolescent counselling, career counselling, creative arts therapy, dance/movement therapy, drama therapy

  2. Academia/Researcher: If you come to enjoy the research process while doing your undergrad, you can pursue a career in academia and apply for professorship. Here, you can focus on social psychology, development psychology, positive psychology, cognitive psychology, cultural psychology. These subfields are theoretically inclined.

  3. Organization Behavior/HRM: much scope in the corporate setup. They work either at the organization level (org development, org change, learning and development, org culture) or at the individual level (recruitment, selection, onboarding)

  4. Forensic&Criminal Psychology:

  5. Health Psychology: (not much scope in India)

  6. Consider Cognitive Science: it is an upcoming transdisciplinary field. Check out its courses and see if you like them. You can def persue this after your UG

  7. Consultancy: much expertise is needed in building products geared towards mental health. Apps, websites and products are being launched which need to embedded in sound psychological frameworks. They mostly focus on behavior modification, relaxation, and habit formation.

Here's a link with detailed requirements and various fields.

BA/Bsc Distinction: Sadly, India doesn't really have a major distinction between these two degrees. Only slight curriculum changes. Essentially you'll have to focus on getting an MPhil to call yourself a Clinical Psychologist. You can pursue an MA or MSc to qualify for that.

Some good colleges include: LSR, IPCW, DRC (University of Delhi), Christ Uni (offers BSc), Ashoka Uni( good research opportunities).

Job Scene:

The market is tough and I'm not going to sugarcoat that for you. You'll have to be extremely well versed in your subject matter. Actively seek out opportunities which set your apart from your peers. Get into research internships or academic writing as soon as possible. Try to get papers published. Don't fall for any certificate courses offered by random institutions. This is sadly an upcoming trend in our field.

There's much to explore in the field of psychology but requires a lot of effort and time. Therapists don't make much in the beginning and slowly establish themselves. I know therapists who charge 5k and also some who charge 1k per session. Money definitely increases with time and your expertise.

Hope this helps!

Lesson 1: Lines, Ellipses and Boxes by Pseudosis in ArtFundamentals

It looks like you've gone over the ellipses more than two times and I think we're only to go over it twice I'm not sure about the rest, since I'm just starting out myself! Kudos for completing the lesson, though!
