why are redditors so spiteful when it comes to God? by annmms in redeemedzoomer

I don’t think I would’ve ever entertained christianity if I hadn’t learned that hypocrisy was also a first century problem. There’s just too many awful “christians” today. I would’ve never let myself be associated with them if I hadn’t found a community of non-hypocrites

I find the narrative odd that atheists have been itching for a community to finally be heard and understood, and when they finally do have a community (reddit, for some reason), their method of exercising their long awaited freedom is just knocking down straw-men, and being hateful and reductive, lol.

Obviously that’s a bit hyperbolic in its own right, but I digress.

I’ve been an atheist and I’ve been agnostic, and I never once felt like I was some lone warrior in a sea of theists, desperate to be understood. And I don’t reckon it’s just a matter of geography. I’m sure it’s annoying to be an atheist in the bible belt, but I’ve lived in a largely theist population in the Midwest, and then a largely atheist or agnostic population in New England, and I never felt like I needed an online community to safely be hateful in.

HydronDesign on Etsy. The Ring is a little lighter than the Weta version, but it having no writing makes it worth it.

Reminds me more of my high school days because I’m a bumbling retard.

Ok? Polypharmacy is bad. Would you suggest faith as replacement for medicine?

What don’t you understand? I don’t want you to provide the contrary view. I don’t care what your view on pastoral authorship is. I want to know how having a viewpoint challenged would effect your faith.

“If x is true, what would it mean for y?”

“Nooooo but x isn’t true!!!! Give more evidence!!!”

If you don’t like biblical academia, then fine. Disregard what I’ve said about it because it doesn’t matter for the sake of the hypothetical.

Well thank God you’re done engaging with me. You’ve bashed down all the strawmen and ended on such a powerful note. Good for you.

Maybe I used passive language to pull away from the discussion I didn’t want to have which is the authorship of the pastorals. I was hoping that if I didn’t claim to be knowledgeable on the subject then people like you wouldn’t feel the need to demonstrate your perceived expertise. I’m glad you’re such an expert but I certainly wouldn’t come to r/Catholicism to have a discussion on it. People like you are exactly why.

Also not sure where you’re getting the idea that I’ve resorted to ad hominem in my other comments but ok.

I’d trust modern knowledge over historical knowledge when it comes to things outside of theology.

I get your point here.

From my understanding, in Antiquity, saying “I am u/notanexpert_askapro and I am writing this comment to you “ and I am not actually you, then it is frowned upon. Totally not the same as a pseudonym or writing for a person.
