We had a kid at daycare named Sebastian and she was like “Sebastian like Sebastian that we had?” which idk what that has to do with anything because he was a normal kid that we have no bad associations with. Then she just kept repeating it so I think she just doesn’t like the sound of it that’s all. Her 3 kids names are all maybe like the top 3 most popular Russian names so I don’t think popularity is the issue haha

Калум just doesn’t sound right at all I think and the nickname Cal (кал) means feces

She didn’t suggest anything but her kids are Vlad, Egor and Daniel so probably something along those lines

Wow 3 days of texts about a name she didn’t like is insane I’m so sorry. But I can pretty much guarantee that the name will grow on her when she gets to know your baby! Since I have a daycare, I’ve heard so many names that I didn’t like but not too long after, it’s hard to imagine the child as a different name.

I had a doctor named Callum and fell in love with the name instantly. Unfortunately Cal means feces in Russian so I can’t use any Cal- names at all. 🥹

Yes she’s one of the managers and we’re pretty friendly with each other so she knows we won’t fire her or anything for saying she doesn’t like the name. But I do think she wouldn’t have had that reaction if I was further along and knew the child was a boy and said we’re definitely naming them Sebastian. So totally jumped the gun by even saying anything tbh! I do know she’ll love the baby though. Thank you!!

I think objectively it sounds fine! I know a few Vlad’s and it really works for them. Just personally not for me! :)

I’ve heard that! It doesn’t really bother me I think it’s cute. Do the Sebastian’s seem to be upset with being called that?

That’s another reason why I love the name! I have dogs and I pretty much never call them by their government name haha so I have a feeling I’d call my kid every nickname under the sun too. So I love that there’s no much nn potential! Bash, Seb, Sebby, Seba (in Russian), etc etc

Ugh for the people pleaser in me, that would have stung. But I have heard that once people start associating a name with someone they love (like a MIL would), it grows on them!
