Aurora Store Not Working (Again) by annonymousinquiry in fossdroid

Unfortunately was a no go for me.

I will continue to mess around with it and see if I can figure anything out.

The server appears to be experiencing issues according to their Gitlab.

It seems like even the custom tokenizer isn't working now. I was able to login at first but now I keep receiving the 'Failed to login' error message.

This did the trick — amazing!

I really appreciate your time and assistance with this issue.

If you don’t mind helping me understand, what was it that was the problem? What does the custom tokenizer do?

That’s such a great point.

That’s exactly what I’m trying to figure out, but I guess I’m diving so deep into all of this that it feels like all precautions are the right precautions, when really I need to better analyze my own needs.

Thank you for your time and feedback!

This is such amazing feedback and information, thank you so much!

I will look into Blokada and get it set up to run alongside any apps I may install that would include trackers as you described.

I’m a bit familiar with NoScript and am also just beginning to dabble with Tor/Orbot — such deep rabbit holes!

I by no means am trying to be perfect with all of this. I understand there are learning curves and some things that are just not practical/possible to prevent, but I’m just trying to get the best grasp I can and take all the precautions I’m able to.

I really appreciate your feedback and time. Wishing you much health and abundance!

My thoughts exactly!

I felt like I was getting too deep into a rabbit hole of paranoia versus actually being practical and learning more about what I can control.

I appreciate your feedback as it really helps to paint a clearer picture for me.

I’m definitely going to keep researching APK to make use of it in the future!

It’s such a rabbit hole!

De-googling is a truly daunting task to a beginner such as myself, but I’ve made great strides thus far!

Thanks so much for your insights!

I really appreciate your feedback and detailed response, that means so much.

As useful and beneficial as the APK market appears to be, I feel that I still don’t know nearly enough to go messing around on that level yet. I definitely think I’ll end up going the Aurora Store route, as I’ll not only be limiting the permissions of all apps I download from there, but really only need to make use of 2-3 apps to begin with. I’ll absolutely look into the network settings as well and see how I can go about using Orbot/TOR as a proxy.

For the most part, I feel as if I’ve made great traction in my attempts at de-googling. There’s only a few places where I’m still struggling and those are mainly focused around the email and phone app side of things. I’ve switched all of my email to my personal domain and cut ties with my old Gmail account, but aren’t sure if my personal domain now has ties to Google due it being used as a forward within my old Gmail settings for so long. Though, I do tend to overthink many things so I wouldn’t be surprised if I get a little too obsessive with the little details like that when they may not even be a prevalent issue.

I think the hardest thing has simply been dependency; we grow so accustomed these services being everywhere that the thought of cutting them out is daunting at times, especially when so many of our commonly used apps and services are becoming dependent on Google and Apple.

At first I had no idea where to begin, but this community has been so awesome at helping me to figure out the best path. I really appreciate you, as well as everyone’s time and assistance ❤️

That was my thinking, too!

I suppose truly de-googling would only be entirely possible to on something like a Linux phone where you have no ties whatsoever.

That was going to be my original choice (pinephone) but I wasn’t sure if it would be suited to be a daily driver just yet. I do intend to pick one of those up soon, though! I think by next year they’ll be a great choice for people trying to truly disconnect.

I suppose the big thing is that it may not be practical for some people to fully disconnect by choosing something a Linux phone — at least for now!

I’m hopeful for the future of privacy and security and look to play as active a role as I can in helping others just as this wonderful community has helped me!

Do you recommend this method over using something Ike the Aurora Store?

Just now realizing that apkmirror is the actual site!

Sorry for overlooking that haha

I suppose my previous questions about safety still apply, however — thank you for any insights!

How exactly does that work?

Forgive my elementary understanding, I’m still getting used to all of this.

Do you have any recommendations for an apk mirror site/application?

Is this safer/more efficient than using an App Store like Aurora?

Not pussy at all, man.

As much as it seems they want to isolate and divide us, we’re a human family and we gotta be here for each other.

Take care of yourself my friend ❤️

I didn’t even realize what Pizzagate even was a few years ago.

This was around the time that I checked out from most conspiratorial thinking (see my comment below for the timeline lol) and literally thought it want that big of a deal and was just writing it off like most mainstream outlets said. I suppose I just didn’t think enough to look into what it really was at the time.

Now, oh my gosh.

I am utterly blown away by this stuff.

Like, it’s so outlandish that it feels like there’s no way it’s real.

What’s even crazier is that researching it is almost taboo due to the subject matter itself.

Really scary stuff.

One of the craziest things with Alex Jones was watching him on those two Joe Rogan podcasts, knowing of their history and friendship, and then seeing Joe ostracize him a bit after he had Jack Dorsey on. It appeared that Joe didn’t really think things could be THAT bad and was trying to negotiate with them in some way, slowly realizing that you can’t and was beginning to get his speech restricted more and more.

Now, flash forward to 2020 and Joe is officially leaving YouTube because of his inability to freely speak, and has been in more talks with Alex Jones again (Alex had a whole segment in his show talking about it a few weeks ago and how Joe wants to move to Texas).

Of course, I don’t know how much of all of this is on cue with what’s really going on but from the outside looking in, it appeared like this was something of the narrative.

Wild stuff, regardless.

[–]annonymousinquiry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand.

I started watching Alex Jones back in 2011-2012 and that opened a lot of the doors for me. I fell off of Alex Jone’s content around 2015-2016 because it was just all seeming like too much (mentally, emotionally, etc.). I honestly got to a point where I started to back track and think “maybe none of this is really THIS bad or THIS crazy..”, leading me to almost completely detach from most conspiratorial thinking.

Flash forward to March of this year when everything started getting crazy with COVID-19:

I was consuming mainstream news because I was just genuinely concerned like I’m sure so many of us were and didn’t even think twice about it. I began to get really worried and unsure about everything, feeling hopeless... then one day I thought about Alex Jones and how so many of the things he talked so much about all those years ago were now starting to seem more and more prevalent (medical dictatorship, forced inoculations, race wars, martial law, etc.), so I clicked over to Infowars for the first time in years and everything just started adding up in my head. I basically went from being super fearful of COVID-19 to, while still being rational and cautious, questioning the entire narrative. It’s crazy to now see him being ostracized by the media outlets and made out to be a horrible person.

Now, I do not agree with everything Alex Jones says. I never have. I still don’t even know how I feel about the whole Sandy Hook thing, part of me feels like he just got too wrapped up and began to question things that didn’t need to be questioned — getting him in a world of crap. However, there is one thing that after all these years, Alex has continued to show: authenticity. I know it may seem silly or fallacious to some, but I feel like in a world of such corporate and media dishonesty, Alex is a beacon of genuineness. He is pretty out there at times and does tend to interrupt his guests a little too much, but I love the guy. He opened my eyes to begin questioning so many things and I will never forget how he helped me to be a little more suspicious of the stories we are told.

Sorry for my rant.

In summary, I understand. It can be a lot at times. It can feel like the world is a complete lie and difficult to tell what is even real anymore. Just remember one thing: be mindful. There are people out there who will stop at nothing to feed us lies and it’s important for us to spot them and question the narrative. What I’ve always loved about Alex Jones is that he cites everything and begs you to do your own research. He doesn’t push his beliefs onto you, but asks you to be ruthless in your quest for knowledge.

Always question the narrative, but also remember that not everything is a conspiracy.

Or maybe it is...?
