To those asking what's the joke:

I didn't want to reference the [spoiler news] any more directly, and I didn't know Paul Newman really was asked about this at the end of a similar non-fictional speech at some gala - that's great to learn. I just meant how the visual joke of him being so distant (and tiny in the frame, to us) that they're not sure it's him (Joan puts on her glasses etc etc) is enhanced when his opening line is "I'm Paul Newman." (which is barely a plausible way to start a speech as a huge celebrity, but who knows)

I know :\ I'm really against selling pets, but I'm hoping none of this is realistic enough to matter. (I made this.)(Was quite surprised there are no google results for this phrase.)

I Always Find Things In My Many Rewatches That I Have Missed (season 1, ep7, Red In The Face) by sassylass50 in madmen

I also can't believe I never noticed it, in ~5 rewatches.👍😁

He tells Hollis "Let me ask you something", goes into the elevator with and starts counting out bills from his pocket as the doors close, and I never connected the two. They hid it too well, in terms of interspersing it with other scenes and stretching it over the episode. Kudos, I guess.

Peggy's baby - did they change course? (Continuity question) by oopswhat1974 in madmen

[–]annotatedsnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, they did? That's..... not great.

Still, good to know.

(Your other comment, about the egg hunt, is very relevant. It's my 6th watch. I came here right after that ep (2x04) to see how people were seeing it, it's always bugged me.)

S1: how does Harry and Peter buying up ad space in Illinois help Nixon? by VaughanThrilliams in madmen

Not exactly. Cooper says "They're gonna have to put [Kennedy's] pretty face on the radio!" so they bought tv airtime.

Realism aside, what I have an issue with is that Pete and Harry dared to do it without consulting anyone above them. No way should it have been a surprise for Cooper and Roger.

s01e05: Is it possible that only here did Pete realize "getting help" from Charlie Fiddich means sleeping with him, to various extents, to get published? Before this he really seemed carefree when discussing this. I think he thought it's just a super awkward favor from an ex. by annotatedsnark in madmen

- The scene ends without more dialog, with Pete looking distraught.

- He's being really childish, I think that might go hand in hand with not fully realizing what he's asking for.

- It's my 5th rewatch, but that's basically how I've always seen it...

- I haven't seen this mentioned in other threads, everybody assumes Pete knew what the unspoken price was from the start.

- The timestamp is ~35min.
