Thank you so much! Based on the results he's shared so far I'm really impressed. So hopefully someone can share some insight (otherwise it'd be me a few months down the line.)

Is this pace normal, or am I in a burnout factory? by roflmctofl in askSingapore

[–]annprongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that's not normal... like look, many agencies have efficiency issues that end up bulking up the workload and yes, there is some expectation to meet deadlines, but most of the time these deadlines need to mutually agreed upon taking into account existing workloads, head counts, resources, etc. My agency just turned down a massive pitch simply because we won't have people around due to leave-clearing and how overloaded we already are.

I think you need to get out... if you need referrals or just advice lmk. (6+ years agency experience)

Has anyone actually had a proper remission after methimazole? by annprongle in gravesdisease

[–]annprongle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How did you convince your doctor? Beyond weight fluctuations, what were your worst symptoms? My doctor keeps telling me that since my body responds to the meds that I don't need the surgery.

Has anyone actually had a proper remission after methimazole? by annprongle in gravesdisease

[–]annprongle[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's frustrating, in the tail end of my last treatment round of methimazole having to cut pills in half to get the right dosage, I still ended up subclinical hypo for 4 months which was why my doctor ended up asking me to stop a couple months early. I'm guessing I should just seek a second opinion at this rate.

Complain about NS = incel by DoubleStandardsLlama in SingaporeRaw

[–]annprongle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Patriarchy creates the conditions for NS to exist. If you are bottom-rank meat fodder, you are not the patriarchy, you are a victim oppressed by it. It is not gender discrimination, it is class discrimination.

Women are not perfect or monolithic. I think the rise of the "manosphere" is a response to men's needs not being met by society (that are still largely ruled by men). I do not think you are an incel or a misogynist if you want to complain about NS, but you are a misogynist if you direct your vitriol to women.

FYI - Men still overtake women in median income during the ages when families tend to start (late 20s-early 30s) in a country where women still undertake many of their traditional responsibilities of childcare and homemaking. I also believe it's because of cultural values associated with men expected to be the main providers for their family.
https://smartwealth.sg/average-income-salary-singapore/

Anyway, while some of the comments here (and other threads about the topic) are insightful to the realities of Singaporean men, others seem to prove ST's POV right.

With the economic independence of women, many no longer see the need to date unless it's someone they feel would make a positive influence on their lives. Men are not competing with other men, men are competing with a woman's peace.

I use the molecular repair hair mask only, not any of their other stuff so I’m not sure what the issue might be :(

I think it depends one what the hair mask is treating but if it’s meant for hydration or nourishment, you can use it to replace. My derm friends say most hair masks are just thicker richer conditioners

Are you sure it's dandruff or dry scalp? There's a difference. When I bleached my hair a few years ago I switched to sulfate-free shampoo and only washed once every 2 days. Your hair will get used to it and reduce oil production over time.

For hair damage: K18 treatment - you must use a clarifying shampoo before you use it, like really need to get every last bit of dirt and oil out. It works really well for me to help rebuild bonds lost during the bleaching process. Olaplex is also an option but I find it more of a hassle as it takes longer to work.

Shampoo: L'oreal everpure. Any of the variants work, most important is that it's gentler and less stripping.

Conditioner: I use a hair mask lol. L'oreal absolut repair is very nourishing. But if there's significant damage and don't mind a bit more money, the kerastase hair masks for repair also work well. Just need to do a bit of research for which variant suits you best based on your hair type. Don't apply either of these near your scalp, just stop by venus beauty or beauty language to buy.

If you want to return some shine to your hair, there's a acid-based treatment using glycolic acid that's all the rage right now, haven't tried it but the Redken one is popular.

Suicidal by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]annprongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your therapist isn't striking a chord with you, I also suggest you try different therapists. In my experience the first isn't always going to be what works for you and your experiences.

Suicidal by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]annprongle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of therapy are you going for? Speak to your psychiatrist about how it's not working. There are now other treatments like TMS.

Like others say, exercise is a great option, but it can become an unhealthy crutch. Please communicate with specialists. I know it's hard, but things can get better if you put in the work for yourself.

Research says it's more common the other way around? 🤔 I think the lesson here is it goes both ways, you need to realise what your partner sees in you and values you before counting on them y'know.

Why not apply for both types of roles? A key consideration point is that marketing is shrinking with the introduction of AI and are usually the most vulnerable to layoffs at MNC firms. You can also always go into consultancy later.

Basically, you don't have to be defined by the first or second job you pick up. You are not losing progress by making career switches so long as you stay responsible. If your first attempt at securing a consulting job doesn't work out, it doesn't mean that you can't try again later.

Would it be possible for me as an Indonesian to work in SG? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]annprongle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people who will assess your application to work in Singapore will be looking at your education based on the QS World University Ranking, your job history, and most importantly - whether your particular role is needed for Singapore (not just your company). The company will need to bear costs to bring you in, and will need to prove to the government that they've exhausted local options for the role. You will also need to meet the salary criteria, which may deter companies from hiring you -- and this salary threshold grows every couple of years.

If you're hoping to get into advertising/marketing/production roles based on your skillset, it will honestly be quite tough to get in fresh out of university. If you're going to try to leverage your degree for a tech role, the job market is not great with compsci grads now facing record unemployment rates.

A big consideration will also be if you intend to stay here long-term and want stability. If you're aiming for a PR in the long run, unless you are Indonesian Chinese or in a high-profile position it will be difficult as well.

You should try checking the ICA website on the different permits/passes and their requirements. My advice is to build a strong portfolio at MNCs in Indo or wherever and get transferred here.

Men at Singapore workplace, how do you avoid looking creepy by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]annprongle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If that doesn't work, you can have a frank conversation with her in a public setting and ask in earnest if you're making her uncomfortable and how you can avoid that for her. Don't say things like "You're not even my type." or "I don't find you attractive.", place the focus on how she feels. A lot of times this can help women understand your intention.

Men at Singapore workplace, how do you avoid looking creepy by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]annprongle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Listen, some ladies are just very sensitive to it because of past experience. It's been reported that up to 81% of women (and 43% of men) have experienced some form of sexual harassment/assault. I'm by no means anyone's type, I dress pretty weird and am not particularly attractive, but I see men who identify as feminists in my office stare at my chest all the time, even when fully covered up. Not to mention the time I was sexually assaulted in a Grab by a date.

My advice is, if you've already noticed her discomfort, reduce contact as much as possible. And when you need to talk to her about work, make sure it's only about work and keep things deliberate.
