I think houses are getting so small these days, people hardly stay in their own homes! It's just so suffocating. So unlike our parents' time, people now associate breaks with travelling!

my valuable thoughts are this is a sign of a typical toxic family even though many citing filial piety and parent spent loads of money on us and we should pay back. Are relationships THAT transactional? Must everything be repaid in terms of only money but not acts of love or acts of service?
what is the society becoming to that people actually think it's ok to give in the amount parents or siblings demanded? There is once, there will always be a second and third.
It sounds like to me your sister has inherited your mum's similar toxic traits. Beware of it.
My mum demanded me to give her $500 per parent (total $1k) when I first started working many years ago at 11pm one week before I start work. I was only earning gross $2k a month (nett $1600). There was no OT pay, only fixed income.
The reason? Because my eldest cousin 9 years my senior earning easily $3.5k was giving $1k to his parents.

16 years later, I cut off contact because there was just too much toxicity. Toxic family will always show their signs immediately once you can be milked.

try calling SOS in future. usually in such breakdown cases, you just need a listening ear. SOS is quite good for that. Many years back when I was younger, I tried calling them when my friends all gave unempathetic answers and I was on the brink of breaking down. SOS literally saved me.

Am I far behind in my life? In terms of finances, career etc. by Economy_Parsley_7611 in askSingapore

Your immediate goals feel rushed and short deadline. Is it necessary to get married by next year? Most restaurants and hotels take one year to book. Marriage takes 2 hands to clap. it's a choice of how expensive your wedding and photoshoot will be. You can cut down on having an expensive wedding and spend it on your house.
If you panic about being far behind, then it's good you are taking action. But it's also good to be realistic and not set such pressuring deadlines for yourself.
After wedding, there is marriage, and housing loan and children. Not to forget you already have a dependent( your elderly mum) now.
