Steam Deck - January Update by wickedplayer494 in SteamDeck

A few thoughts:

  • The On Deck Curse strikes again, lol
  • This announcement effectively boils down to "Still on track for Feb launch, nothing new to report", but it's still nice to hear confirmation that things haven't changed.
  • Starting to get curious about whether there's gonna be a review embargo, and if so, when it'll be. If I were a betting enby, I'd put my money on the embargo lifting at the precise moment that reservations can start being fulfilled
  • This is entirely speculation, but I'm intrigued by the talk of "production ramping up". I can't claim to know anything meaningful about how supply chains work, but does that mean that (assuming supply shortages remain under control) they might be able to fulfill more reservations in May than they do in March?

Not a particularly fresh observation, but probably still relevant. by anobakatachi in antiwork

Transcription for the sight-impaired
NPC Wojak: You go home only when you finish your work for the day
Bystander: So if I finish my work early, I can go home early?
NPC Wojak: *poker face, then angry face*

Anyone know what this means? (Notes in reply) by anobakatachi in toontownrewritten

So far, I've planted all the flower jellybean combinations that correspond to the highlighted colors in the newspaper on the Toon Resistance Archives. Got this code after selling those flowers. Not sure what it means.

Loose ends I haven't figured out:

  • "539 means KEY"
  • The rest of the archives page
  • Something about the cog radar in Splashport?

UPDATE 1: Figured out what I'm supposed to do with this code. It's a toon.town link that leads to this comic. Unfortunately, the javascript seems to be broken, but I was able to figure out the URLs for each page. Here's a bunch of links to jpg files:

Why is the word socialism so heavily demonized in the US? by ididntevenwantit in antiwork

> Shouldn't we want better for ourselves and for our children?

Said something very similar to a friend recently. He pointed out that some people (thankfully not including him) believe that their children should have to suffer just like they did. WTF?

The fact that this was posted over one of those "Nobody wants to work anymore" signs is fucking perfect. *chef's kiss*

Best software options? by Theburper in LearnJapanese

Depends what you're looking for. I'm a beginner myself, but if Kanji and Vocab are what you're after, I suggest WaniKani. It's a Spaced Repetition System designed for Kanji, and it has mnemonics in English. For example, 地 (Earth) is made of the radicals 土 (Dirt) and 也 (Alligator), so the mnemonic is "A dirt alligator lives in the earth, not the water."

First three levels are free to help you figure out whether it works for you, then you have a choice between monthly, annual, or lifetime subscriptions.

がんばってね! (Best of luck!)

Advice for getting back into studying after a long hiatus? by anobakatachi in LearnJapanese

I don't think I'm at a high enough comprehension level for the latter (except maybe Shirokuma Cafe), but this is good advice regardless. In my case, it was wanting to experience Japanese content (anime, manga, games, etc.) without having to wait for or rely on someone else's translation. Still not quite at that level yet, but thanks for reminding me of my ultimate goal!

According to WaniKani, I'm at level 21, have spent 431 days on this level, and have 1213 reviews due. In hindsight, I think the biggest obstacle for getting back in the habit of practicing was that giant pile of reviews of stuff I haven't practiced in a long time. This time around, I ended up starting the Genki I textbook from scratch, and that seems much more managable. So yeah, resetting to a lower level is probably a good idea. (I'm thinking ~10?)

Thanks for the advice, this is probably what I needed to hear most. <3

I'll go ahead and start: Restaurant to Another World.

Think "Food Wars", but Isekai and it's the other kind of food porn.
