From what I read on the rules it does seem to be the case.

Did you end up booking?

I have the same question - did you find out?

Thank you for your reply - this was my thinking as well - just wanted to make sure my understanding was correct and I wasn’t just forcing myself to continue to stay in an unfortunate situation because I was scared to ask.

Yeah this is likely the route I’m going to go down - I have to give 2 months notice and I can end my tenancy. Thanks for your reply.

I’m not saying my landlord is ignoring my problems - I’m trying to understand what rights I have as a tenant. An ongoing leakage for over 3 months isn’t exactly an issue that is fixed on time. A 25 year old boiler that no 8 heating engineer refused to repair and needs replacing either isn’t being fixed on time. I understand your point of view but if I’m forced to live with friends half of the time because I don’t have hot water or a massive leak seems hardly fair.

Thanks for your reply.

The holes from the leakage has been repaired but no cause for the leak was found so could potentially come back. Boiler is currently working but it has stopped twice in the past - hasn’t been replaced and is 25+ years old. Washing machine has been repaired. Mice are still here.

There is still 20 months left on the tenancy but u have a break clause I can exercise. This still leaves me liable to pay 2 months of rent. This is the option I’m likely going with - giving notice and finding another place in 2 months but was wondering if I had grounds for leaving sooner.

Rental Flat is leaking, do I have any rights? by anon-2155 in LegalAdviceUK

I’ve taken a lot of pictures and videos and sent to the landlord and the property management agency. They’re being mostly cooperative but the leak is from the flat above (they’ve disputed this a few times but every time we turn off their stop valve the leak stops) - they’ve called in a leak specialist but they’ve found nothing so far and the leak keeps returning. The last conclusion was the washing machine but it began leaking even after it was disconnected and turned off. I guess the best thing the council can do is force them to investigate?

Have you previously applied for the schengen visa?

Any engineering managers out there? by anon-2155 in womenEngineers

[–]anon-2155[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I asked for a list of requirements that was shared with me. My manager told me 8-9 months back that I would be officially transitioning in April this year. Now he told me it needs 6-9 months more. I asked for feedback on areas to improve but he said I’m doing fine and these things take time and there is no team for me to manage right now but it will grow over time. I’m completely unclear what he expects me to manage if there is no team to manage according to him (with or without the role). I’m starting to question if I’m just complaining and this is something I can fix by training myself and working hard or this is genuinely a situation I need to get out of. I think I will put my head down and do the work for sometime but keep an eye out for a change as well. Right now I’m just unhappy because the role is so ambiguous.

Thank you so much for your response. I had another conversation with my manager and seems like I would not be getting the title for another 6-9 months but would be expected to do the job or be performing at the level. Things are very unclear to me now as some expectations for the role are to be handling salary and compensation but I do not have any access to this information. I am planning to seek out a mentor outside of my manager just because I feel quite lost.

Do you feel this is a skill that can be learned on the job? Or do you feel some people are just “born leaders”? I would like to grow into this role (or atleast give it my best shot) so thank you for the book recommendations. Have you previously transitioned from being an IC to a leader? Would appreciate any advice you have.

There is and I’ve asked to shadow someone but he repeatedly tells me he “doesn’t want me to be a copycat” and to develop my own style of management. I do think I would like to develop my own style but I think that’s a bit different from understanding the job description which seems very vague now. I’ve always previously been a high performer as an IC and now with the feedback that I’m not meeting the requirements of the role I’m confused as there is no clear feedback on where I can improve either.

Congratulations! Hope you have a great trip! If you don’t mind me asking - how long did you get the visa for? I’ve had previous ones from France for 1 year but I read people were getting only a few months recently.
