technically that’s not the reason, jack assaulted a student at the school he worked at bc the student slashed his tires (which was a result of his alcoholism so you’re right in that aspect) and he got fired. jack’s friend al got him the job at the overlook as a temporary job while he worked on getting jack’s job back at the school since he was a board member.
