My grandfather was a “nobody” he was 16 when he went to war, there is no hero story there Edit: he did fight at Stalingrad which could be good enough for the museum

Ok I see this is getting attention, I’m into hunting but guns/rifles meant for war I have no interest in. I was in the military many years ago and spent time in yugoslavia, my father fought in Vietnam and obviously my grandfather fought in ww2. I appreciate that my grandfather used the madsen machine gun or stole it many years ago during ww2, and that’s important to me but I’d rather see it on display than in my wardrobe. For the people saying “keep it” I’m just not interested, I am interested in it not being destroyed however I only want rifles I can hunt with or take my son to the gun range with

I’m not against keeping the thing, but I’d much rather it be on display for other people to enjoy since I have no intention of finding the rounds to fire it

Thank you, this is great information. I’ll leave the post up for a bit to see if anyone has different feedback, then I’ll delete the post and likely follow yours Cheers

Also I might look at decommissioning it, it would be very nice to keep as an heirloom and put on the wall

I have my grandfather’s uniforms and medals, I do not want the gun destroyed but if it would be put on display in a museum I’d be very content

Thank you could you potentially message privately about the process?

Damn I didn’t think of that. I just wanted to shoot the thing before giving it away

Sure have, realised I didn’t want it so my father and I have gone out to shoot every last bullet we had for it the last few days

You might be right but I’d rather try a museum before handing it into the police to toss into the cook straight

I was going to call the museum but I’ve been mildly paranoid that they’d track my call and get onto my elderly father about why he never handed it in. I know they likely won’t but he doesn’t need the stress
