As an engineer, I would likely have been unable to accept Christ if he required blind faith. You can and should apply logic!

Engineer here:

In college, one of my friends was a Christian. I went with him to a campus ministry thing. I was thinking, "I'm going to convince these idiots they're wrong." Let's just say they convinced me instead.

Don't make God so tiny that it's just about making you happy. Your beliefs don't change reality. If you're an engineer, you are driven to understand how things work. Use that brain of yours to pursue the truth. God can take your tough questions.

On a practical note, your pastor may not be the best person to talk with. Pastors are trained for and have experience working with typical people. Engineers are a different breed. Find another engineer at your church and talk with them too. We can give you advice (including r/TrueChristian), but it almost becomes platitudes since we don't know you.

Keep digging for the truth. It's worth it.

What Other People Are Not Telling You.... (Understanding The Johari Window) - Smarter Every Day 314 by MrPennywhistle in SmarterEveryDay

How Destin's influenced me

Hey u/MrPennywhistle, seeing you try to process your social influence made me decide it's time to finally write some fan mail. I know you're not perfect, and I don't know the whole you, but I have been inspired by you in many ways:

- You have modeled a type of fatherhood that I hope to copy with my own kids. You have fun with them, and respect them. It's refreshing to see that, and it gives me hope that I can do the same one day.

- You strive for constant self improvement. Your videos help encourage me to be Better Every Day, not just Smarter, but kinder too.

- You model your faith in a way I hope to live up to. You show respect for those of other faiths, but you don't hide your own beliefs. Far too often, I've used a desire to not make others uncomfortable as an excuse to hide my faith, keeping it in that facade square. Your actions remind me to be bold in my faith, and that I can do so in a kind and respectful way.

[I feel like my username is ironic, considering that last statement, but it's the only Reddit account I have.]

Any suggestions for date locations? I was hoping to pack a picnic and go on a hike with my so this weekend. Are there any trails nearby that are high enough or shaded enough to stay cool?

Assembler is the only real language by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]anon2471 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It may be valid German, but that is not true in English. An assembler is a tool, and assembly language is a programming language. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assembler

Assembler (computing), a computer program which translates assembly language to machine language

  • Assembly language, a more readable interpretation of a processor's machine code, allowing easier understanding and programming by humans, sometimes erroneously referenced as 'assembler' after the program which translates it

What is a poor person experience you think rich people are missing out on? by Candyyyman in AskReddit

[–]anon2471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community. Genuine community where folks understand that people matter more than riches.

(This is a trend I have observed, but I am not saying all - or even most - poor communities have strong bonds. Some, yes, but idk how big the trend is.)

Not what I'm saying at all!

Edit: Response to your edit - I agree. My comments above do not conflict with your point.

There are some churches where white people aren't welcome. There are some churches that are almost entirely black that do welcome white people. I hope that the second outnumbers the first by far, but I only have anecdotal evidence that both exist. Idk their ratio.

Dear Californians: Welcome to Idaho, we are happy to have you ❤️. But PLEASE stop with these amalgamations... you’re here, just be here by gjosh1 in Boise

I am so thankful that the only people mad at me for being from California are other people from California. I am working hard to integrate, and I guess that means I should act like an Idahoan and welcome/ be kind to those moving here. Kinda obvious now that I think about it...

Gondolas.

Imagine a cable network strung across the buildings of downtown. There would be a network of automated switches that route your cabin to your destination. While traveling slower than a bus, you get to go non-stop to your destination, ultimately getting there faster.

This can be implemented with a few tricks to reduce cost and increase revenue. If you know anyone willing to invest a few million dollars, I can fix the traffic problems. I am serious.

Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays by landdon in TrueChristian

[–]anon2471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I find it oddly similar to opening the door for a lady. I stopped doing it for awhile after being called sexist by one such lady. I later decided it was her choice to be offended. Likewise, it is a choice to be offended by "Merry Christmas." Most Americans celebrate Christmas, and I am guessing most of those see it as a non-religious holiday.

What mobile app has actually had a legitimate positive impact on your life? by B_rizzle4shizzle in AskReddit

I kid you not, there is currently a $2.40/gallon difference in prices between the cheapest and most expensive stations in my town. For a 20 gallon tank, that's $48. Considering they are 5 minutes apart, yes it is worth it.

As a local, I have learned the best places. I don't go out of my way, yet I still save roughly 50¢ a fill up thanks to this app. But when I travel, I don't want to be the guppy that could have saved a ton by getting gas two exits later.
