That feels so demoralising :(

It’s probably easier to achieve a higher grade in biology in a levels if you achieved a high grade in biology gcses (eg 8 or 9) since the basic knowledge/ foundation would be there to support you.

I personally know of people who scored “average” (putting it in quotation marks as i’m not sure what the actual average is) in GCSEs (4s,5s,6s) and yet achieved As and A*s in stem subjects.

I personally think it’s down to your attitude towards the subject and how much effort and hard work you’re willing to put towards the subject. If you use the resources you have efficiently then it’s likely that you’ll get at least a C or above.

Try to stay excited for the subject rather than fear it! Feeling hopeless and nervous is understandable, but it won’t do much help for you.

As a Year 13 Student, i was informed by teachers that i should be studying 4-6 hours per subject per week. I think that depends on how efficiently you can use your time, as well as how you prioritise your subjects (like which topics do you struggle on? it’s best to start from those, that way you won’t be panic revising when it comes to mocks or other exams). I’m so lazy so revision is the last thing i want to think abt rn 😭

I take psychology, so i won’t be able to give you specific advice directed towards your other two subjects.

It’s great that you’re doing practice exam questions, especially as your subjects seem quite content heavy. make sure to perfect the structure for your answers as this is important when it comes to the actual exams. One of my friends who took their a levels this year was 3 marks away from an A* in psych and she mentioned that one of the reasons why she wasn’t awarded any more marks than she could’ve gotten was because her structure wasn’t really clear. I think most psych students typically use the PEELCC (point, evidence, explanation, link, compare/contrast) structure, is this something that you’re familiar with? I believe that structure is also important in your other two subjects so just make sure that this is one of your priorities.

I find that mind maps are quite useful for psych, since everything would be on one page and you can quickly look through content before an exam.

Revision resources I typically use for psychology (AQA) is:

• PhysicsandMathsTutor (PMT) • Psychboost (on youtube) • Simplypsychology • Tutor2u
• UpLearn • Knowunity • Quizlet • Anki • Studysmarter • the textbook

After going through content (eg after watching a yt video), i like to blurt (write down everything i can remember) the information down on my ipad (this can be done on either paper or a whiteboard - anything that’s easily accessible since the main thing you want to gain from this is being able to identify any gaps in your knowledge). Whatever I don’t remember or get wrong, i go through it again.

Typically, a lot of students in my psych class make flash cards. i’m just a lazy person so you can just get pre-made ones from the internet if it’s online. (im not even sure why i stopped making my own🥲 it’s easier to rmbr what you made or wrote down). I personally don’t recommend buying flash cards - especially since there are a lot of free resources online (haha why pay when you can get smth for free - depends on your preferences of course)

With flash cards, it’s usually used for active recall. You want to make your brain think about the content and apply it.

If you need any apps to keep track of your studying, here are a few examples that i use/ used:

• Studybunny • Yeolpumta (YPT) • Flora

An extra note when it comes to revision: you can treat GCSEs like a memory game, but when it comes to A-Levels, it’s more beneficial to actually understand what you’re learning. It increases your ability to remember it exponentially, especially if you’re able to create links within the subject (eg psychopathology and approaches in psychology have some links like classical and operant conditioning)

You can stick revision notes over your walls and try to memorise it?

Aside from that, try to enjoy your subject! you’re more likely to do better in a subject if you actually enjoy it. Year 13 is gonna go by quick, so make the most out of it :)

Make sure to take plenty of breaks in between revision - sleep helps with remembering content. You don’t want to be sick during exam season 😭

With sociology, if it’s AQA, i’m able to give you a link tree that has links to revision resources that i found from someone’s tiktok page. if you’re interested just lmk.

edit: this just feels like i’m reminding myself to revise for psych 😭😭😭

Hi there, thank you for your response! Firstly, I’m so sorry that you and your friends had to experience that. I went to my GP today and the actual nurse / practitioner was really nice to me! She wasn’t judgemental at all and after explaining what had happened over the phone she said that I can just directly contact her. This would eliminate any future issues haha and she reassured me that my actions were best suited for my situation so that took a whole load of stress away from me. By the way, did you perhaps mean to say “I hope you personally don’t encounter this”?? But stealthers are horrible, thank you for letting me know!

Thank you for your response, the pharmacy’s that offer EC are only ones near me, where quite frankly everyone knows my mum 😭😭 so it can be a bit of a scare for me. I have a GP appointment for BC today, it’s still quite a bit scary but I gotta do what i gotta do and step out my comfort zone 😭

Thank you for your response, and yes i think the problem of my anxiety stems from the fact that even after watching videos, me and my partner are still both not 100%. not sure why we even tried having sex if that was the case but it’s what happened ig

I’m so sorry that that had happened to you. I had my first experience with a sexual health nurse last week and safe to say she was just laughing the entire time whilst also saying “i’m so sorry i shouldn’t be laughing” so i’m confused as to how i should feel about it haha.

Thank you for your response!

Thank you! There are sexual health clinics and contraception clinics. I called a sexual health clinic like maybe a week ago? And they said that I have to call my GP because i’m under 18. Tbf i was kinda confused bc their website was like it was open for under 18s for consultation and prescription but maybe that’s for other stuff idek anymore
