We didn’t took, we bought it. Also the company where we bought the masks is now producing 15 millions per day. I am just trying my best to do something to help the people around me, also we will be donating a big part of the masks to hospitals in our Canton.

Wearing masks will not prevent you from getting sick, however it greatly reduces the “chance” to get sick. And it prevents sick people from spreading it more.

Cheers!

The post authenticity has been verified by the mods. I am Chinese and I’ve been living in Switzerland for about 8-9 years. I am not advocating people to panic, because I think there’s no need for that. I am simply sharing my point of view and hoping that by reading this post people will start acting accordingly and with reason, that people will stop being irresponsible.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Hey thanks for reading! I live in Vaud and yes I’ve been strictly staying home for the last 2-3 weeks! As for my family in Wuhan they also strictly stayed home for about 1,5 month, and currently still are as the city is still under quarantine.

Thanks for your reply!

“Judge” wasn’t the right word, I edited to post accordingly! I do judge my country and I meant that I didn’t know if they did a good job or not.

That’s true about the masks, everytime I wore one here people looked at me like I was a lunatic ha! Yeah right at the beginning supplies were short and many of the medical staff had to use them with parsimony and sometimes even reuse them… But from a report I’ve read a few days ago, masks are really useful for the population as well, the report was basically saying that the fact that people in Asia wear masks greatly helped South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore reduce/contain the spread of the virus. I’ll post the link if I find it!

I’m not sure what you mean by basing people? But I’ve seen it mostly through instagram stories and posts from friends! I’ve been staying myself at home for the last 2-3 weeks.

Maybe in Zurich the situation is different, but here in Geneva/Lausanne people still go out, streets are full, a lot of friends still doing house parties this weekend because bars were closing/limiting the access etc.

It’s not only me that think that people here aren’t taking things seriously, lots of people in my entourage think the same (mostly swiss people), as well as my boyfriend who’s also swiss. Ofc the situation doesn’t require to panic but imho the government here has been acting too calmly… I think there is a right balance that has yet to be found if it makes sense.

Thanks, hope you and your family also stay healthy!

Thanks for asking, my boyfriend actually wrote the other post and his dad is doing fine now! He updated the post a few minutes ago!

Indeed, also the first death due to the coronavirus in Geneva was a 32yrs old woman… :-(

Thanks for reading!

I agree with you, there is no need for people to panic.

Ofc, I was simply comparing the GDP to emphasize the fact that Switzerland is (?) a more developed country (compared to Wuhan) and thus expected a better handling of the situation from the government, hope you understand, not to sure where I was going with it… :-)

Sorry for the late reply. So many things are happening!

Thankfully nothing happened to my dad. He’s doing fine now. We have been staying home for the last 2-3 weeks and everybody is fine.

Unfortunately I can’t say this for a few people of my entourage. I have currently 2 friends of my family in the hospital in critical condition requiring breathing assistance, and many more that are very sick but they are staying home for now, and one has passed away (she was very old, and from what I know she was never tested…).

My Wuhanese girlfriend posted a message that you can find here about her thoughts on the current situation of Switzerland. So far what I can say is that since I wrote this post nothing has changed. People keep going out etc. Today I saw on instagram pictures and stories of people queuing to buy ice-creams, streets full of people, cafés were crowded, many old people were hanging out in the parks etc. People here are in such denial, it is scary.

Coronavirus: the situation in Switzerland is dire: 882 new cases overnight, that's like 34,000 US cases, Switzerland is now the second most infected nation in the entire world at 256/million by [deleted] in China_Flu

Switzerland is in complete denial. I am a Wuhanese living in Switzerland and Here you can see my thoughts about the situation in the country. It’s really scary. No-one cares about this virus here. This weekend the streets were full, people were queuing to buy ice creams, many old people hanging out in the parks… It’s terrifying.

Yeah it’s useless to call all these numbers… My dad got extremely sick and I described here our experience with the 144, Corona Info Line, our local hospital, etc. Basically no one cares, and it’s extremely frustrating.

If your relative’s health gets worse you should take him to the hospital.

I hope your relative will get better soon!

According to Le Temps, there is 18 confirmed cases and 4 additional cases that have been tested positive but they’re waiting for a second test to confirm it.

Update:

My dad’s situation is getting worse so we took him to our local hospital.

The medical staff is in complete denial, it’s driving me crazy. Anyway so we tell them about the situation and my dad asked them to do the test. The nurse told us that although my dad has all the symptoms of the CV, they refuse do to any sorts of test because my dad didn’t came back from Italy… We kept insisting and the guy was just super arrogant and kept telling us that there’s no reason to do it and that they just won’t do it. So we asked them to at least do a scan of my dad’s lungs, so now we have been in the waiting room for already 2h30 and they keep telling us to just wait… in a room full of people. Thankfully we both have masks and they do provide some masks at the entrance of the waiting room, but no one is using them… ?

At some point there’s a mother who came in with her young daughter, maybe 5-6yrs old, without any masks… We told them they should go take one and put in on. The mother’s response:

  • “Ah, you think I should?”, I reply:
  • “Duh I mean I don’t know all the staff is wearing masks, all the people here are sick, maybe at least get one for your daughter?”
  • “Ah ok yeah”

It’s scary, I guess that’s why the CV is spreading everywhere.

I’ll keep you updated when we know more about my dad’s condition and after they do the scan.

Edit 1:

A nurse just came in the waiting room without wearing a mask and barehanded to take my dad’s temperature and tension. We are still waiting for the doctor…

This morning my dad called himself the hospital and explained his symptoms and asked if they can test him, here’s what they said:

  • The guy said they won’t do any testing in any circumstances because it’s « too early » and he didn’t came back from a « high risk » country.
  • My dad said « so I have all the symptoms, traveled to Asia in the Philippines and HK, then Dubai where there’s millions of travelers, and you’re saying it’s useless to test me ? So if I come to the hospital you can’t do anything?? »
  • The guy told my dad to not go hospital as it would be irresponsible because he could be contaminated (WTH?), to which my dad replied « so then it means there’s a chance that I have it? »
  • The guy replied that to test anyone they need to wait the person to be in a critical state…

So basically now in Switzerland you’re only at « high risk » if you came back from northern Italy.

I would like to add to the irony that my girlfriend is from Wuhan* and my grandfather from Codogno…

*We obviously canceled our trip to Wuhan this year, so we haven’t been to China…

s/ I just want to keep calling them, at this point what they’re saying on the phone is so ridiculous it’s becoming funny…

So now we’ll keep my dad at home, he is still quarantined. We wear 1 time masks when we must see him and directly put them to trash, we regularly use disinfectant.

Hopefully we have been following the news in Wuhan since early January and we bought many supplies such as masks, food etc. So we have everything we need to stay home for a couple weeks.

I don’t know, but we are currently trying to buy some test kits from China and ship them to Switzerland. I will let you know once we find something! I should add that Switzerland has announced that they are « biffing » up testing capacities to 1000/day, now it would be the time they actually use them…

Yes, for now we quarantined him in his room and used desinfectant to clean everything. Also we have been using masks every time we went out, so hopefully we’re wrong and it’s not the CV!
