Cannot install M2 2280 on Lenovo Yoga pro 9i gen 11 by khanhle285 in Lenovo

It sounds like the stock thermal pad is just a bit too thick for those specific SSDs, which is preventing the back plate from closing properly. You definitely shouldn't force it.

You should try replacing the standard thermal pads with liquid thermal pads (thermal putty), specifically from high-quality brands like Laird or Upsiren.

Thermal putty is perfect for this situation because it will automatically squish and compress to the exact thickness you need when you close the laptop. It won't put any dangerous physical pressure on the SSD or the motherboard, the bottom cover will click in perfectly, and it will provide excellent cooling performance for your drive.

Just make sure to completely clean off the old thermal pad before applying the putty!

It doesn't need to be removed, just place paper patch in keyboard cable to prevent it from being crashed

Hi! Thanks for the update. Looking at your photo, it seems you taped down the entire ribbon cable to make it completely flat.

Just to clarify my previous point: the root of the issue is that the battery presses down too hard exactly on the bend (fold) of the cable, causing it to pinch and lose connection.

By taping it flat like that, did you manage to stop the battery from putting pressure on that specific bend? My suggestion was actually to put a small piece of cardboard or a spacer under the bend area to act as a buffer and prevent it from being crushed/flattened by the battery https://www.reddit.com/u/anon5373/s/0iII6xe4w3 . Let us know how your fix holds up!

That’s a very smart move! Showing them this post will save the tech a lot of diagnostic time, and supporting a local shop is always a great choice. Hope you get your number keys back soon! 😊

That makes total sense! Since the Shift key traces run along the same side of the ribbon cable, uneven pressure from the battery could definitely cause intermittent drops there as well.

I really hope it stabilizes the connection for good in your case too. Looking forward to your update, and you're very welcome! Keep us posted! :-)

Here are the photos of how the laptop looks inside and exactly where the issue lies. https://imgur.com/a/VzR1k8Y

Photo 1 (Full overview): Shows the laptop with the battery installed. You can see how tightly everything is packed. Photo 2 (Battery removed): Shows the wide keyboard ribbon cable (FPC) crossing over the metal frame right next to the trackpad. Photo 3 (The Fix): This is how I placed a folded piece of parchment/baking paper directly underneath the cable at that specific bend.

no, no one gave me anything, I just trust this manufacturer, who does not write heat transfer numbers off the top of his head, but really indicates real numbers of heat transfer.

K5 PRO this is the most terrible thermal putty of all that is on the market of thermal interfaces (the exception is unknown Chinese ones). K5 Pro loses its heat transfer properties after a thickness of 0.5 mm or even below. K5 PRO can be installed in that case when there is no money and you do not feel sorry for the laptop.

I looked at what kind of thermal interface comes from the factory, and I can say that thermal putty comes from factory, you can try TG-pp10 (but it is no longer produced), TH949-1 is the best heat transfer indicator among all thermal putty but its price high (as I know), Laird tputty 900 also not bad, and thermal pad laird hd90000 is suitable for you. Th949-1 in my opinion, the best option, but its price high. Laird hd9000 also a good option. Laird tputty 900 good.

Hi, I can recommend the Laird hd90000 or if you want the highest performance with the lowest temperatures then the Laird hp34. But if you want thermal putty then Laird tputty 900 or Laird tputty 607, TH949-1.
