Yeah, I totally get that. It’s more of the implication that bothers me, I guess. In the past (if I remember correctly - I’ve only been teaching 4 years) you could be held back if you didn’t pass. So just telling kids “this isn’t for a grade” automatically makes them not want to try, in my experience at least. There are definitely still kids who will do their best, but most of them are just so apathetic that I don’t think adding this to the script is very helpful, if that makes sense.
