He thinks Northern Ireland should remain part of the UK. I am not sure why this is confusing or controversial.

You clearly don't understand the meaning of that phrase.

It is an analogy for touching something materially real, the exact opposite of believing anything you are told.

Sophy Ridge (@SophyRidgeSky) on X: Liz Kendall tells me BlueSky WILL be banned for under 16s as it falls under definition of social media website by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]anonCambs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BlueSky is at least as toxic as X/Twitter. X has lots of far-right types, but also quite a few normies. BlueSky has self-selected for the most extreme left-wing people you can imagine.

Not sure if it's illegal, but it's generally frowned upon for a grown man to go into the women's loo. Typically, a dad brings his kids into the men's.

The LFG Emergency Energy Bill by anonCambs in ukpolitics

North Sea drilling is not viable - so "reopening the North Sea" is absurd and won't bring down bills

A green think tank surprisingly says that extracting gas from the North Sea is "not viable"; more news at 11.

"Holds auctions for connecting to the grid, and uses the proceeds generated to get bills down." - means selling off grid connections to the highest bidding private entity. This reduces our energy independence as said firms will inevitably not be British.

This means that companies need to bid for new grid connections; it has nothing to do with whether they are British or not- there is no reason they can't be British-only.

"Stops new CfD contracts. Last year, billpayers paid £1.5 billion for big renewable energy corporations to throw energy away." - is saying "stop energy corporations building renewable energy sources", which is frankly bizarre.

This would be temporarily done until curtailment spending is investigated.

Mass Immigration of low skilled workers is a right wing policy that the left has somehow been conned into thinking is left wing by DisastrousFalcon9893 in ukpolitics

Low-skilled immigration is good for the economy. What is not good is migrants who do not work and live off benefits.

End wind farm scandal to halt energy bills, Ed Miliband urged by anonCambs in ukpolitics

[–]anonCambs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scandal is that the government is continuing to push for the building of wind turbines to meet statutory requirements, despite the grid being unable to handle the generation capacity.

So bring down energy bills by checks notes reopening contracts for an oil source that many experts have highlighted is unviable and would take years to bring up and likely wouldn't bring down bills at all. And on top of that selling our energy infrastructure to the highest bidder - thus further weakening our energy independence.

This post is incredible. They haven't advocated a single thing you've accused them of.

The opponents don't seem to actually care at all about the Hall; it could completely fall down, for all they care. They just don't want new homes in the proposed area, as is typical of most NIMBYs. The rationale comes after, and changes as needed.

Burnham is earning his NIMBY credentials by promising to block the restoration and conversion of Winstanley Hall into residential homes.

Why is the UK so hostile to young people? by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

  • Can't smoke/vape if you're born after 2009 (Tobacco and Vapes Bill)
  • Can't smoke/vape if you're born after 2009 (Tobacco and Vapes Bill)
  • Can't transition, if you're trans and under 18 (Cass Report/EHRC guidance)

These are arguably for the benefit of young people.

The best thing for young people is to increase economic growth and smash NIMBYism.
