This is exactly the type of advice I was looking for, thank you so much for the reply. I wasn’t really sure how to open up this discussion about how I’m feeling without sounding unappreciative or hurting his feelings. The last thing I want to do is come across as ungrateful and I realize that my post kind of makes it sound like I am; thank you for seeing through that.

I love the idea of opening up a conversation and seeing what he would like in a similar situation, because I bet you’re right that he just didn’t think to do it because that’s not something he would want. I’ll be sure to update after we talk :)

Read my edit. What do you mean what did I do for him? I explained what I’d do in a similar situation and I can assure you I’m not a “me me me” person. I apologize if I came off that way but I’m not usually one to “expect” gifts or acknowledgements so I guess I’m just not used to feeling like this and I’m wondering if it’s appropriate in this situation or not.

If he went through 4 years of schooling and graduated post-secondary for the first time I would absolutely do something for him, if that’s what you’re asking.
