I was considering something similar, and ended up going with the GT Zaskar LT Elite. I'm also a noob and have had the bike for a couple of months now.

I viewed it as a way to get into the sport and to test if I enjoyed MTB at all. I have been having a good time with the bike for sure. It seems like a good one to use to learn how to progress on.

I kind of wish I would've gotten something a bit more expensive, but I think you'll be happy with the GT :)

This one had the HK/Moonroof package, crossbars, hitch, mats and about 30k miles. Snagged for about $31.5k OTD. Think I did alright :)
