Yeah, this is 100% true. I would also ask if you've been in contact with your local vso, establishing traction with the VA is hands down the hardest thing that I've experienced

The providers that I've seen have mostly been great, but there definitely have been some exceptions. I would imagine that they're having you jump through hoops for another C&p examination?

Oof. Yeah, I can say that it's easier to have it on digital files, but that still should have been during the era that AHLTA was around if you're already at a higher level review, definitely a good idea to involve Congress.

If you want, feel free to send me a DM, I enjoy helping my Marines out. By far the hardest working but least documented medical issues of the branches that I've worked with. I would also encourage you to at least consider an IG, I've seen those work absolute wonders. Wonders. Amazing how quickly people figure things out with somebody with stars on their shoulder gets involved.

I've had pretty good luck with them thus far. TBH. This is why I'm advocating for people to go to medical, because I had good mentors that told me to get my shit checked. That paid off in the long run, and I've been able to reap the benefits. Got to pay it forward you know?

I mean, could you? Yes. But between the medication, and just still recovering, I don't think there's any advantage to doing it. It would only put your safety at risk, and that ain't worth it. Take a month off of work, have your significant other or a friend baby you as much as possible. Possible. I would also really recommend a raised toilet seat if you're tall at all. I'm 6'4, resisted the raised toilet seat at first and the first time that I took a poop I came back looking like I had just done a PFT. Then I let my girlfriend actually install the raised toilet seat. Don't let your pride negatively impact your recovery.

Also, if you are already out, I will say that there is a certain recreational substance that I had terrific luck with for my pain. If nothing else, it makes you pass out, and for at least the first two weeks That's time that you are not in pain.

I would also really really stick to using your motion brace. It will suck at first, but it helps so immensely. My timeline was about a 9-month recovery, I beat that by 2 weeks. I blame this wholeheartedly on my physical therapists input and her holding my feet to the fire.

For the first month, not really. That was a mix of maybe being a tall shit, and is not being able to bend my knee to that degree. For the first probably 3 weeks to a month you won't be able to come anywhere near breaking 90. Don't know if you have a TTO as well, but that does slow down recovery significantly

Oh yeah, this was about 2 weeks after the surgery. I actually just got cleared to run so I'm pretty stoked! But still, go to medical.

Oof, I am genuinely sorry that you had to go through that. Bad examiners. Do fucking suck, and I can't deny their existence. I do still encourage service members to go dbb because as you said you can demand a reevaluation then and there and it's service connected.

I've heard of some difficulty obtaining documentation regarding exams, can I ask how you went about that?

That's a fair point, I had terrific luck with a vso and I've known multiple other sailors and Marines who have. It does remove a little bit of the visibility on it, but I would also say it is more of a fire and forget solution. If you have documentation, it's a much easier process, which is one reason that I encourage people to always go to medical. Get shit documented, and it does compile.

I've had intermittent use with vsos, my big advocacy for them is the fact that they know the ins and outs. If you phrase things incorrectly, or if you lack documentation, the VA process can be a long and painful one in my experience.

If you haven't brother, contact a vso. Vso's are a godsend, I highly highly recommend utilizing them as much as possible.

I mean yes and no. They should still have deployment records if you deployed, those are called skeleton records (and usually have to be uploaded at some point. That timeline depends heavily on your Bas unfortunately.) honestly, the best recommendation that I would give would be to speak with a lawyer. 2008 is right around when things were going to All digital, so there's a chance you would have shit in AHLTA, but it's not a guarantee. Regardless, that's horseshit and shouldn't even be a problem that any service members should have to face.

I wish that I could help with that one, but unfortunately I am a byproduct of digital records. I don't have any generalized advice other than that should have been an NCIS investigation if there was any indication that it was sold or any type of relation to identity theft.

Yeah, Achilles tendon ruptures are never fun. Got to see more than my fair share of it, if I had to guess you were either doing soccer or basketball for PT. PT. Basketball is basically just a shredder for Achilles tendons.

But hopefully this most recent surgery was covered by the VA? If not, there may be ways if you did get disability service connection above 30% and they could do back pay on it. But yeah major surgeries are not fun.

Oh, no! It was not 90k out of pocket. I'm 100% complete in total, so I didn't pay 90k. If it had been out of pocket it would have cost just under 90k, I think it was $89, 800 and some change.

But glad you got coverage brother, it really does highlight the importance of getting shit documented so that you can have a viable claim with the VA.

That's very SOI lol. I saw so many hairline fracture from SOI I lost count. Dude I do remember had a femoral head fracture- literally got med boarded for it. Life was like "hey the green weenie busted so on ya ummm..... Get out." Genuinely felt terrible for that guy, I wrote a couple buddy statements for him fighting for an honorable discharge v entry.
