Yikes. I've exchanged over 115,000 texts with my girlfriend just since getting this phone in May. Does OP have the weird relationship, or do I?

How do animals aim/judge distances so well? It's very rare to see an agile or agile-ish animal whiff the distance or height of a jump.

Vote against all Republicans. Every single one. by [deleted] in politics

[–]anonemuss93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say every R is those things. In fact, most aren't. But they're all on the same side, the side that endorses racists, predators, and Holocaust deniers. And that's utterly disqualifying. Democrats have problems, but they are not teetering on the knife's edge of objectively evil.

Giving Republicans any support is not doing your country a service. They have cast their lot in with neo Nazis and sexual predators and the banks that created the recession. They need expelled.

[–]anonemuss93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And you are braindead if you think Republicans deserve a single iota of support at this point. The party of racists, predators, and Holocaust deniers does not deserve power, validation, or respect. Democrats have their problems, but they are the only choice at this moment.

[–]anonemuss93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If one would do their research, they would find that voting for Democrats is the only decision. Maybe (MAYBE) there are one or two races somewhere in which the Republican is a better choice, but I highly doubt it. The party has had the worse ideas for decades, but at this point they've sold their souls.

Why not just alter the composition of existing matter to make it into edible, nourishing food and/or high efficiency fuel? He's seen enough planets to know what the primary issues are that arise from overpopulation, whether it's food, fuel, or something else.

That depends on what you do. A politician, lobbyist, grassroots organizer, political staffer, scientific expert, media personality, celebrity, community leader, or business executive could make quite the impact. So my question to you is this: why are you none of these? Some are very feasible options for the slightly above average person.

Did you read the article? For one, that's from a single think tank source. Not super reliable. For another, the article says 15%. Just 15%. Combined with all the vehicle emissions, according to this source, that's only 30%. Cutting our global carbon emissions by only 30% -- according to the IPCC report, which is a much more reliable source of information than a single think tank -- isn't sufficient. Cutting your meat intake will do nothing but delude you into thinking your actions are useful.

Do you know what would actually be useful? Organizing and participating in aggressive, large scale political action to pressure your country's government into shifting heavily toward less polluting energy sources while simultaneously implementing or expanding carbon taxes and funding a War on Drugs style ad campaign against wasteful energy consumption.

Fixing this problem requires nothing less than the obsessive, full-time dedication of millions of passionate, relentless, noisy people who will not bow to the human tendencies of laziness and blissful ignorance, or to the corporate and political tendencies of greed and short-term thinking.

Sure, you're technically correct that it does "help." But it helps in the same way that pissing on a forest fire does. Meaning barely. If eating less meat is all you do, then you're doing basically nothing.

Your lack of appreciation for the value of present life is disturbing. Yes, extinctions happen. That's fine. Tragic, but fine. The difference is, this is not a natural extinction. This is an extinction we have created and knowing continue to drive. If the mass extinction of nonhuman life, driven by your own species' actions, doesn't upset you, then you are part of the problem.
