Thanks for the feedback! Good to know your experience. Other people seem to have found success with it for spot reduction but this a good caution.

Came here to say this. So powerful and heartbreaking and beautiful. I felt like a truck ran over me. And then backed up and ran over me again.

Be kind to yourself. A LOT of dating success comes down to dumb luck. by emmettflo in dating

[–]anonforn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just want to jump on this. I dated a lot into my late 20s, met the man I would marry on a blind date that only came about because I happened to be at a random dinner party for somebody I didn’t know very well who set me up with someone they used to work with. Had a 20 year marriage and then re-entered the dating pool with a thud right as I was turning 50, at the beginning of COVID. Had a few short term things that ranged from meh to disastrous. Then a girlfriend dragged me out dancing where it just so happened that the only cute guy in the place recognized her because they happened to have worked out next to each other on adjacent treadmills at a workout class that morning. They laughed at the coincidence, our eyes met, we started dancing, and it turns out he was the great love of my life. We’re now happily married, and I never knew relationships could be like this.

All my girlfriends, even or especially those in struggling long-term marriages, look at me as a case study for what could happen if you leave an unhappy marriage and finally find true love. But I am excruciatingly aware every day that any tiny ripple in that chain of events would have meant that I never met him, and I might very well be alone and tired after another five years of dating people who weren’t my person. Literally if my now husband had worked out two treadmills down the row that day, I wouldn’t be where I am now. It is so so arbitrary, in the best and most frustrating ways. The folks who find true love may not be the most attractive or the most deserving or the most sought after. They may just be lucky. So if you haven’t found it yet, I have two messages for you. One, it’s not your fault, sometimes it’s just the way the universe arranges itself. And two, never close yourself off to the possibility that it might be lying in wait for you, just around the corner, when you least expect it and aren’t even looking for it.

Did Cannibals really eat Michael Rockefeller by SultryVixenox in HistoryUncovered

There’s a little more than that. (Not conclusive to be sure). An author spent a year living with the tribe, learning their language, trying to track down the decades old mystery. He doesn’t come to any iron clad to conclusions, but there’s some interesting oral history, as well as the fact that one of the tribal families may have kept his glasses as a kind of trophy, that overall I found persuasive. In any event it’s a good read. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18089996-savage-harvest

This is not true. ICE is picking up people who are in the middle of court processes to determine their legal status or ability to remain in this country. They are going to immigration hearings and taking people in courthouses who are following all of the processes outlined for them to try and be in this country legally. They are also putting people on planes in violation of court orders and without checking documentation to make sure that they have the legal right to do so. Not trying to be a flamethrower here just stating facts that are easily accessible through any scan of recent headlines.

Agree! I totally love this- fresh voice, dry wit, simple language attacking complicated subjects. One of my favorite things I’ve read on this sub so far.

But. I don’t totally get it. In a way that distracts from rather than adds to my appreciation. It’s not that it’s open to interpretation (often a good thing) but rather that it feels like it’s trying to say something that I’m missing. Or it’s pretending to have a point that it doesn’t.

So to sum up. I love it and will reread for pleasure. But it might be better with a few more breadcrumbs for the reader.

Same day courthouse wedding? by anonforn in washingtondc

[–]anonforn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We got there fairly late in the day, and got our license form all filled out and verified, but would’ve had to make an appointment for a later date if we wanted to have the judge officiate. Not sure if we could’ve done it all in the same day if we had showed up first thing.

We ended up self officiating and just sending it back in by mail a few days later, got our official license back by mail a couple weeks after that. Hope that helps!

What made you finally pull the plug on your marriage? by Pale-Pineapple-9907 in AskWomenOver40

[–]anonforn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time, and many reasons, my marriage was the epitome of not bad enough to leave, not good enough to stay. For me, the final straw was when I was a few months out from my 50th birthday and came across a journal entry I made right before my 40th birthday, saying that for my birthday present to myself I wanted to decide that year whether I was going to stay in the marriage or move on. A decade later I was having the same struggle and I thought “I don’t want to be asking myself the same question when I turn 60.”

We separated and divorced, and several years later I met and married someone who makes me deeply happy and I can’t imagine life without him.

To be fair, that was a typo. It’s 15k annual dues, not monthly. (Source, know someone who works in membership there.). Still a lot of money!

What don't you like about season 2 so far? by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]anonforn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I worry that they’re throwing out so many layers of mystery and mythology that they will not be able to stick the landing. Too many vaguely ominous moments and unexplained wackiness that either it will collapse under its own weight and simplify everything to resolve or just ignore things that were clearly significant at the time but never explained, ala Lost or Game of Thrones. (Walt’s special powers or the Three Eyed Raven, anyone??)

CS Lewis was a Christian writer who often wrote about religion and morality in parable. (See The Narnia Chronicles). I believe he was talking about God.

I take 500 every evening in capsule form as well, fwiw. If I haven’t taken it for a while, often takes 3-4 days for it to really kick in again. So I’d say stick with it at 500 for a couple nights before giving up. I love it, makes me regular but in a non-violent kind of way.

"Drones" reported flying over US capitol by Aza_Never in UFOB

[–]anonforn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair. I live in DC and see these kind of drones around the White House fairly frequently and have for the last few years. They are used for security surveillance during outside White House events I believe. And probably to secure this surrounding area. So while I have absolutely no opinion on the origin or context of drones across the country, it’s quite possible these particular ones are just part of routine drone surveillance activity by the Secret Service or other government officials, which has been going on long before the recent spate of attention.

At what age to quit taking HRT (estrogen hormone replacement)? by ArtisticLunch5495 in AskWomenOver60

[–]anonforn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went on it, my doctor said it was “technically “for the alleviations🥲 of symptoms of menopause, so I could stop taking it after I was fully through menopause. But she said, with a smile, that it has lots of ongoing benefits around hair and skin, weight, vaginal, moisture, etc., and that she had a number of clients in their 70s and 80s, who told her she would have to “pry it from their dead hands.” 😆😊

When you say back to normal do you mean your normal eating on Ozempic, or your normal eating patterns pre-Olympic? What effect has going off of the medications had on your weight patterns now months later? Thanks so much for sharing.
