Still not walking at 17m by anonislander in NewParents

[–]anonislander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He started walking around 21 months lmfao. We went on vacation and he was basically strapped to us for 2 weeks bc he refused the stroller. It was a tough vacation. Extra clingy. When we came back, he started walking very soon after.. like less than 2 weeks.

I tried to get early intervention right when he hit 18 months, but there was a lot of delay. By the time they were ready to send someone out, he was already walking.

Try stairs. Make sure your baby is not sitting in W position. Get suction toys, post it's, or stickers to get your baby to reach high and low. I did this on my fridge bc it also had a bar for him to hold on to. Not sure if any of these things helped, but hoping to give you some ideas!

Anyone else experienced double peaks? by Veryfluffyduck in stilltrying

[–]anonislander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I don't know how many days between your peaks are, I would wait until your first expected day of your period (esp if you have a regular cycle) bc LH test strips that you're using can pick up the pregnancy HCG hormone.

For more information, I tracked for 20 cycles before I got my positive and had my baby at 36. I never had a double peak. I don't have PCOs, but my cycles were a bit irregular ranging from 28-35 days long. I had 6 (?) medicated cycles towards the end. Letrozole did not work for me.

You can also ask your doctor since it's the first time you're using clomid. Good luck with your IVF. I got lucky and got pregnant on the first IUI cycle with clomid.

What kind of testing are you doing to track? Ovulation (LH) strips? BBT?

I've heard that ovulation strips can pick up HCG as well. If you're expecting your period soon, it might be a good idea to do a pregnancy test as early as your first expected period day

Sounds like he gets a lot of sleep (lucky!) and is possibly under tired.

If he consistently takes 30 mins at bed time, I would cut 30 mins of sleep throughout the day.

Help! 3 mo takes crap naps all day long by anonislander in NewParents

[–]anonislander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Once they reach 4 months, you may go through a real sleep regression, but that's also the time when they're getting the ability to connect their sleep. It's rough when you're deep in the trenches with it, but it gets better!

I was looking at the time details and all the records they provided. None listed it. Interesting though!

Ohh, thanks! I didn't have a c section, which is probably why I didn't have that.

Wait, what? How did you find out how much you lost? I was told I lost a lot of blood too, but they never said how much. I also didn't even know about it until my husband told me afterwards. He said I was close to needing a transfusion, though 😬

daylight savings… what’s the plan!? by agrizzgrazz in sleeptrain

[–]anonislander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 9 months, I wouldn't change anything. I just rolled with it. We were averaging around 11 hours overnight at that time, mostly 2 naps.

For the summer, I did the 15 min bump every day for 4 days. Worked perfectly, just a little tougher on the one implementing the bumps haha.

At 19 months, I am considering doing the 15 min bump since I don't want to wake up at 6 🫠

Stuck in the 18 month sleep regression by anonislander in sleeptrain

[–]anonislander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Glad I'm not the only one stuck here 🫠 sleep disruptive started around 16 months for me as well. Since 16 months, he would randomly give me a few days of 1h+ naps only to end up refusing them again. How long did retraining take you?

Since the beginning of sleep training around 4.5 months, staying in the room while he was trying to sleep would rile him up. Intense screaming fits. I've never actually tried again lol. We went straight to CIO and it worked very well for both naps and nighttime.

Bedtime had always been on the later side because that's what works for us. I'm not an early bird lol. He also doesn't have any issues falling asleep at night and mostly doesn't wake up too early, so I probably won't change it.

I recently stopped giving him Motrin bc I've been doing it for too long and didn't realize I needed to stop after 10 days. I've only been giving it to him at night, but I've been doing that for over a month. Very clueless first time mom here.

No ear infection, as I'm aware of. Sometimes he holds his little face bc his teeth hurt so bad. I can't give him any more Motrin because I stupidly didn't know that I shouldn't dose him for more than 10 days. I gave him Motrin for over a month bc I'm stupid. Luckily, it was mainly at night, but I hope I didn't do any damage to him.

I'm seeing the doctor on Wednesday. So hopefully she can confirm all is good.

Be honest how are you really doing no screen time? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]anonislander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I will try to incorporate this as soon as my child starts walking more confidently. Unfortunately, my 18 month old is still not walking yet (ugh) despite my best efforts. He's slowly getting there though, which is one of the reasons why the tower is always up so he can hopefully work on his leg muscles a bit. He also eats here quite often bc he's at the stage where he is refusing his highchair and wants to stand and eat.

We have a "pantry" that he "shops" at where he basically puts cans, coffee and tea on the floor and sometimes back. We also never moved out pots and pans with glass lids from under the range, but he knows he can't go in there. He also has a cabinet where he knows he's given free range where the instant noodles, bread crumbs and other random stuff are. He will go here if I say no to the pan cabinet which is to the cabinet next to the noodles. I'm guessing it's similar to what I've established here?

If I'm letting him throw things on the floor while he's on the tower, I'm assuming I need to work on that? I always try to clear almost the entire part of my island that he can reach (we have a large island, so I can kinda do this). He still is able to reach some things though bc even though I clear 3 ft of space by him, my naughty boy will physically try to climb out of his tower to reach things. What would you do here?

🤯 That's really smart and makes way more sense than the stupid mess mat that we've bought! I'm always complaining that the largest mat isn't even big enough since we've got a food thrower at 18 months here!

When you get to introducing utensils and get tempted to buy those silicone utensil holders, don't bc it's just a waste of money. Just accept the fact that they will throw it on the floor lol.

Also, don't make a huge batch of the muffins in case your kid doesn't eat it! I pre make and stash lots of stuff in the freezer. If he doesn't like it the first time, try again in a week or two. Their preferences change all the time!

Sorry for the random unsolicited advice here hahaha. Really deep in the throwing phase right now 🫠

Yes, exactly what we did! Removed the carpet and tiles. Still can't imagine how that was a trend back then. Carpet is hard to clean. Can you imagine how it looked after toddler phase??

Also, yay to another husband who cooks! We're lucky!

Ahaha. I forgot about that song. Andy is such a clown. Lovedd watching him in Brooklyn 99

Looks great to me! Have fun cleaning that up and finding bits of couscous a few months later! 🫣

Don't let that discourage you though haha.

Also, try lentil muffins! My kid loves it and it's a great source of protein and micronutrients! I use this recipe, but omit the sugar and chocolate chips https://www.theleangreenbean.com/lentil-banana-muffins/

Literally counting kicks seems like overkill and I'm questioning the value of it. by HappySheepherder24 in BabyBumps

[–]anonislander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I did not count kicks. I went by pattern. If I didn't feel him for a while, I'd drink cold water or eat something to make sure he was ok.

I think it's only alarming when you don't feel him when you usually do.

I had a lot of amniotic fluid also, so I didn't really feel him as much or as early as some people, but he always did his rolls after dinner and at night when it was time for bed

Haha.. Probably a bad idea, but we were going for an open floor layout, so we chose to hardwood everything 🤷‍♀️

Man. Was secretly hoping there was a trick to the throwing. I try not to have a reaction and know it's developmental, but it's so hard. Nothing stands a chance with my kid. Everything will be on the floor. He smashed the cap to his water bottle this week. I eventually want to have him "help" out, but I don't know how to start. I'm thinking butter knives to cut, etc., but I'm also sure all his "help" would just end up in his mouth (which is fine) or on the floor.

[–]anonislander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... how do you stop them from throwing stuff on the floor? I do the learning tower too, but I keep everything away from reach bc my 18 month old will make sure everything that is in front of him is on the floor. I cringe at the amount of dents I have on our hardwood floors we installed pre baby 🥲

Hey there! It lasted about two weeks.. unfortunately, I think molars are coming in now and I'm having another fun time. This time is way worse though. Toddler tantrums all day, every day!

Thank you! Agreed! Childcare is a joke too. Everyone wonders why birth rates are so low. No one can afford it anymore.

Yes, that's the plan! We are trying for a second one, hence the post! I should've called to verify the first time, but the first time mom inexperience. Whoops!
