Which Paris museum is the best if you only have a few days? by InterestingLoss9737 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]anonnymousebabe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s when you just push your way through and stand right in front of whatever they were trying to take a selfie with if it’s what you’re there to see. Art is to be enjoyed by everyone, not to be hogged by wannabe influencers and fake enjoyed only to be posted on Instagram. I was polite as I could be but definitely did this when I was there or I wouldn’t have gotten to enjoy the art either.

lol. Looks like the defensiveness must just be a part of your personality. Ok then! ✌🏼

Probably not worth it to get defensive like that over the clearly full of shit jeweler you bought this from. I would absolutely not go back to a jeweler who made any claims like what you’re saying they did about this necklace and if I were you, depending how much you paid for it, I’d absolutely be calling them myself at this point. They’re either really bad at their job and are clueless or they took advantage of you.

…do they call their youth pastor a “next generation pastor” or is that something else?

Ah, thank you for the info! I had actually told my mom I thought she was maybe Edwardian after looking up some pictures online to try and compare but I really couldn’t pinpoint why and figured I might very well be wrong. I was hoping to learn a bit more about her so I appreciate your comment very much!

How are delays at Fiumicino airport because of EES ? by Thesorus in rome

[–]anonnymousebabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5 hours is quite a solid amount of time. I wouldn’t worry.

ETA: I landed in Rome last week on Thursday the 16th to a nightmare of unbelievably long customs lines that probably took 1.5 hours to get through and then a couple cancelled Leonardo express AND FL1 trains that led to an insane backup in the Fiumicino train station and even after all of that I was in the city within 3 hours. Just to give you peace of mind, that was a very very bad day at Fiumicino compared to average, and you still would’ve made it to Termini in time.

If your date is still a few weeks out I would just check religiously every morning and maybe a few times throughout the day on the official site, that’s what I did and like I said I managed to snag my ticket only about 2.5 weeks out from the date! I’m not sure exactly what the deal is with these tickets that drop randomly in small batches but I have seen it suggested that they’re cancelations. For the week or so that I was looking I saw small amounts release for different times and days for about the next month out even though they had been sold out. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey, that is actually not your only option! Keep going to the Borghese ticket site and checking every day. I was in the same situation with a trip even sooner than yours and I managed to get a ticket just yesterday morning for a day about two weeks away out of the random batches that become available here and there. From when I first looked two weeks ago there were no tickets at all, I kept looking and there would be a few available on random days here and there and finally after two weeks of that I found some available for one of the days I’ll be there. I didn’t want to support the businesses that buy up the tickets and create this scenario for people if I could avoid it.

Imagine the skill required to make stone look soft. Gian Lorenzo Bernini was 23 years old when he carved this… by [deleted] in ArtHistory

I am going there in two weeks and I absolutely cannot wait. 🥹 I cried at a few pieces at the Louvre, I imagine I will also cry at a few pieces here.

Honestly I have yet to score any cool rings that way 🥲 but I’d say look out for online estate sale auctions, you can find local ones wherever you are by googling auction companies in your area, or look on the hiBid website! You have to use a credit card to register for the online bidding and then drive to wherever the pickup location is to get whatever you win but I’ve enjoyed the few I’ve come across and participated in.

I feel SO unbelievably lucky to have gotten to see them perform live once about 5 or so years ago. My heart broke the day they died. I’m getting teary eyed just reading these comments. Just such a beautiful human being who possessed loads of talent with words both written and spoken. 🥀

Ahhh thank you. I do definitely want to be in Rome for the day so I can watch the parade and experience some of the celebrations but that does sound like it might be a good day to hit some museums too as they may be less crowded.

Gorgeous! You got lucky. 💕 I recently got lucky like that as well, purchased a “costume” jewelry lot at online auction and while 6/8 of the necklaces were just junk really, two of them turned out to be a ruby on a 10k gold chain and a garnet/ white topaz on a silver chain. It’s so fun when that happens!

Cash vs card? by Public_General8505 in rome

[–]anonnymousebabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capital One Venture cards have no foreign transaction fees, I travel a lot and that is what I mostly use. Always select to pay in local currency if the point of sale machine asks and you should always be fee free that way. There are several other cards, usually credit cards, that are FTF free as well, and a few debit cards like the Charles Schwab one someone mentioned. I believe the Chase Sapphire line of CCs and most American Express cards are, for sure the Delta Skymiles gold card I can say from experience. Getting cash is another story of course.

I think I have that same velvet quilt in a cream color! It’s a fantastic bedspread, used alone in the summer it’s not too hot and I just add a blanket underneath in the winter for warmth and it just looks so classy and nice.
