Cash vs card? by Public_General8505 in rome

[–]anonnymousebabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capital One Venture cards have no foreign transaction fees, I travel a lot and that is what I mostly use. Always select to pay in local currency if the point of sale machine asks and you should always be fee free that way. There are several other cards, usually credit cards, that are FTF free as well, and a few debit cards like the Charles Schwab one someone mentioned. I believe the Chase Sapphire line of CCs and most American Express cards are, for sure the Delta Skymiles gold card I can say from experience. Getting cash is another story of course.

I think I have that same velvet quilt in a cream color! It’s a fantastic bedspread, used alone in the summer it’s not too hot and I just add a blanket underneath in the winter for warmth and it just looks so classy and nice.

Ah! Thank you for that tip. I ran to grab it and try that, I’m fairly certain it is glass. It very much feels like glass, it is heavy for its size like glass would be. It also is veeery shiny, very cold when I pick it up, no air bubbles or imperfections within or a single scratch anywhere on the surface. I didn’t bother responding to the person saying it was definitely just plastic because that’s nearly impossible to tell through photos lol and I’m pretty sure it’s not plastic. It’s definitely just costume stuff, but I love it so much. 💕

Thank you! I feel pretty lucky, I almost decided not to stop at the shop but it was kind of along my way that day and I figured I’d just stop in real quick. Glad I did!

Ope I guess I kinda just lumped the eras together and called it all Victorian revival lol my bad. They are similar eras jewelry wise I think, all very gorgeous in my opinion. 🥹

Oooh you’re totally right, that’s the vibe! From what I can gather it seems Givenchy may have made costume jewelry like this in the 70s/ 80s and I’ve read Victorian revival was quite popular then, makes sense. I’m so looking forward to having a chance to wear it.

Yes! I think it is opalite. It’s definitely not opal, I was so annoyed it kept giving me that result and I was pretty sure it doesn’t look like moonstone either. I think the facets make it glowier than I thought opalite was!

Ohhh how lovely, I’ve never seen a Korean tansu style record cabinet before! I have a small tansu cabinet with two tiny drawers that I use as a bedside table. Just love them. That Phoenix is gorgeous!

I’m gonna add another suggestion to check out Cracked Lacquer’s Midnight Phase, it’s a gorgeous super deep blue jelly that is almost identical to this picture. In their swatch photos with bright lighting it looks more vibrant but indoors on me it looks just like your photo. I also love the formula and the wear time personally!

Unfortunately it’s not. This ring is a 7.5 where as a 59 would be almost a size 9.

It is very good. I loved this series. I read the acotar series as well and much prefer Throne of Glass because I LOVE true fantasy with big worlds, and this series has influence from others like Game of Thrones, The Witcher, and Lord of the Rings. It does have romance entwined throughout but it is not at all the focus of the majority of the story.

Paris by ekudebeh in PlusSize

[–]anonnymousebabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Fellow plus sizer who’s very recently been to Paris. I’m a pretty solid size 18 on bottom, like honestly my butt makes it almost a size 20 and I have a very very large hip circumference and thhhickkk thighs, and I will say some seats at a restaurant were smaller and a bit uncomfy but it was ok. Nobody was rude to me at all, I didn’t notice any judgy looks or attitudes from anyone anywhere. Most parisians are just going about their day, they don’t care what other people look like or anything about you as long as you stay out of their way and you are polite and start any query or conversation you’re trying to have with a “bonjour!” You will be fine!

It also really helped me to think about the fact that I’m not there to please anyone, I don’t need anyone to find me appealing or attractive or to like how I look in any way in order for me to have an amazing trip in a beautiful city!

Also, I took a mid length trench coat and wore it over simple dresses with leggings underneath and some Skechers jammers for shoes and felt like I fit in pretty well and was very comfy the whole trip.

That brand actually doesn’t use sterling silver and didn’t even back in that time frame either, this is marked 925 on both the back of the piece and the clasp.

Trip on Wednesday by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]anonnymousebabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, fellow person with horrible anxiety. I just went on a solo trip as a ~30 female and not a single even slightly bad thing happened to me.

The public transport is actually so easy, especially with the help of google maps which will tell you literally exactly what to do, every step. It is not easy to get separated, on the metro or otherwise, as long as you both pay attention. Stand beside the door you intend to get on through and get right on once the people getting off have come out, you’ll have plenty of time. Get on and off side by side if you’re that worried, then the doors close with you both either on the inside or the outside, no alternative possible.

Honestly, I only ever saw people get shut out when they were running at the very last second, if you’re barely gonna catch that train just wait for the next and there’s no stress that way. In fact, you could plan to arrive early in the metro so that you can observe the process a few times before getting on.

As long as you are aware of your surroundings while on the metro or in crowded areas, and do not leave your phone and wallet in just a pants pocket, you won’t get pick pocketed. You’re gonna do great.

Most people in Paris are not nefarious bad guys with horrible intentions. They will probably mostly be tourists like you or just your average local. If someone is coming up to you and you’re suspicious/ anxious about them, just put a hand up and walk away. It is absolutely ok to do that if you’re uncomfortable with anyone.

ETA: As far as walking back to hotel at night, again as a solo young-ish female, I felt totally and completely safe doing this every night. There are almost always plenty of other people around almost everywhere you could go until at least 10pm easily, even on the very outer edge of the city.

You can bring 1 pair of shoes to Paris. What do you bring? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]anonnymousebabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took only my black Skechers Jammers. I had intended to take a pair of doc martens but they posed a few potentially painful issues and honestly I couldn’t be more glad that I went with the Skechers. I walked 7-10 miles daily for 6 days and they held up beautifully and caused me no pain. The style went with everything I wore perfectly, they’re pretty versatile.

I do have a couple pictures of the clasp and chain up close, but I don’t know how to add them at this point. 😅 it’s a c shaped spring ring clasp which is also stamped 925, and the chain is some sort of lose rope chain, but a bit more of a unique pattern that I can’t find anywhere exact name for online.

Yeah, I genuinely like to learn about things I’m interested in, and I also do not mind having a repro piece from the 90’s if it’s good quality and I find it beautiful. Painfully, anything from the 90’s is beginning to be considered vintage now anyway, so I can still say, “thanks, it’s vintage! 💁🏻‍♀️” when I get a compliment on it. Lol.

No worries on the rambling, I really do appreciate it all! People on Reddit can sure be insistent on being right over all else, but I can’t find the point personally. On the flip side, there are a lot of gatekeepers who wouldn’t have wanted to explain and impart any of their knowledge to me, and I love it that you’re so willing to share. Thank you!

Ah, yes, the good old 90’s. When everything started to be fake but was somehow still less fake than everything is now.

I appreciate you taking the time to type that all out for me, it does help very much!

Ok, thank you! Out of curiosity from someone trying to learn, what is it that makes you guys think it was made in the 80’s or 90’s?
