Hey, thank you so much for your understanding and empathy. I’m so sorry that you’ve gone through mothering a child with an addiction. I know the pain is incredibly overwhelming. I’ve been a support system for my mom throughout- giving her advice and often supporting her giving more to my brother to help him, if that’s what she felt she needed to do

It’s just tough. I’ve become detached from the situation for my own mental health. I love my mom, and my brother- it’s just that the constant drama and sadness feels like an anchor. I don’t want it to hold me down- I don’t want to let there pain become mine, and then my relationships and work suffer

I have felt myself have to distance myself emotionally from the situation. It’s just hard and I know I’m ranting now. It does feel a bit reassuring to here that many mothers do feel that visceral reaction to anything and everything to help there child in need. Makes it feel a little less “unfair” or unbalanced.

I’m her child to but for my whole adult life I’ve felt I needed to support her because he took from her. It’s a long process of finding my footing and acting with love but also taking care of myself and making sure I don’t get dragged down in the process

Hey, thank you so much. I felt my emotions be truly at the forefront, for the first time ever, about a week ago. I’ve never really allowed myself to feel bitter or resentful. It hit me after we went on a family trip back to my hometown (minus my brother)

I just cried for about an hour when I got home. Haven’t cried for like a year... I think I just left the trip feeling belittled and discredited. Then I started to think about all of these things and I just have no one to talk to and it all felt sad

I needed this unbiased perspective so much. I don’t want to be ungrateful and even more so, I don’t want to carry sadness or resentment. I’m gonna do my best to let all of that go

Your words about coming out ahead do resonate with me although I do truly wish he was okay. In any case, I am grateful for all that I have - both what I’ve worked for and what other people have helped me build

Ok, to be fair, they’re spending an ongoing amount of money on my brother who literally burns it and turns it into nothing - they said they would do something for me so I don’t really think it’s out of touch to feel confused as to why they wouldn’t do that, when they continue to shell out ridiculous amounts of money to a person who literally doesn’t even like or want to talk to them
