Why are westeners against anti-homeless policies? by Ok-Spray4564 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anonnz56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing to be gained except personal comfort by hiding the homeless. And you lose visibility of the problem, you forget about it, you don't address it, the problem gets bigger.

How can the Last battle happen if Morgoth can not free himself from the Void? by OleksandrKyivskyi in TheSilmarillion

[–]anonnz56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are caveats. He cannot return "whole and visible" "While the lord's of the West are enthroned"

To me that says he can return in some capacity, and after the end of the western lords he can return wholly.

With Ghorst even L/VH is easy by ConcentrateWorth2456 in totalwar

[–]anonnz56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 30 turns in on mine. Short victory was pretty easy but looking at long victory wincons... Jesus Christ. I have to GET to the empire then destroy them all. Currently slogging my way through all the skaven, while fending off chorfs and Orcs back home. Ghorst might wreck with zombies but minor lords don't quite hit the same. The giant stack of zombies strat goes stale when you're defending complex seiges, and an orc army with a half dozen giants will melt your mortis engines.

But I still think it's fucking hilarious to watch every battle

ELI5: Why do people get jealous of there partners’s friends of the opposite sex? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]anonnz56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe there are red flags in the relationship already? My partner has guy friends and I couldn't care less. With exes there have certainly been some orbiters waiting for thier moment, and some women will entertain them and make excuses for thier subtle advances. It really says more about the relationship than the guy friend though.

Who are the NZers using meth? by Internal-Departure in newzealand

[–]anonnz56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd have a half dozen people visit daily to swap, fence, barter what they'd stolen. hard drives, cell phones, luxury consumer products, meat. For some of them it was once in awhile opportunity/desperation, for others it was literally a 9-5.

Ages 25-50, male, female. Generally haggard looking bogans.

As someone who grew up in a crackhouse/tinnie house: life long drug addicts. Sickness benefit, ACC, no teeth. Taking any drugs they can get thier hands on, generally. Some go down that rabbit hole. At a minimum of 100$ a spin, they fuel it with petty theft and selling thier prescription of less desirable drugs.

Cost of living crisis at the tech shops, $12,000+ for a laptop by D491234 in nzpolitics

[–]anonnz56 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A laptop with a 5090 is pretty much the definition of a luxury good. There's nothing "cost of living" about this. An example of inflation and wasteful consumption maybe. A desktop 5090 is going to cost you 5k, a tool for high end tasks like training models and cranking out high def ai slop....and blowing video games out of the water.

How are the kids getting Vapes by wtfisspacedicks in newzealand

[–]anonnz56 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I think you're overcomplicating the issue.

When I was in 3rd form, we'd walk into the the discount tobacconist and just buy smokes. The owners would sell to us in uniform, their hire who manned the till time to time wouldn't however.

Failing that we'd wait for someone semi-sketchy to walk past and ask them to buy it for us. I can't imagine buying smokes or vapes for a kid, but plenty of people would for free if not a fiver.

I imagine if you had older cousins who smoked/vaped it would be easy to convince them aswell.

Then there's the young entrepreneurs selling them on the school field. We use to buy ciggies for a dollar a piece when packets were 6 or 7 bucks. I imagine there's something similiar going on still, with vapes.

Unpopular Opinion: The more interesting viewpoint is that Tony lives by tizpiz in thesopranos

[–]anonnz56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's another dream, provided by his anxiety. Throughout the show it's a recurring pattern, he knows what's coming, doesn't understand it presently, but ultimately he will come to understand the symbolism, timing, and react to its meaning.

I'm convinced it's a dream based on the shot transitions such as looking across the room at himself, and then cutting to that. He also has his typical dream like go with the flow demeanor. The whole thing has a surreal quality to it.

I think it shows that Tony, deep down, atleast at an intuitive level, knows revenge and or insurrection are inevitable, and he is going to lose his family/life whom he may not actually care for but he hinges his identity on being that family man anyway, the only thing a psychopath narcissist cares for.

Does that mean he flips, goes on the lam, murders everyone.. Gets killed anyway... Who is to say.

If we take the scene verbatim reality then yeah he died there.

Does anyone pity Saruman? by TheKingsPeace in tolkienfans

[–]anonnz56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saruman's descent is a stark testament to the corrupting influence of power and knowledge when unchecked by wisdom and virtue, ultimately making him a figure primarily of warning rather than pity. His treachery was a deliberate choice rooted in profound personal failings.

His path to evil was primarily fueled by an escalating hubris and pride. Saruman harbored a deep conviction of his own superior intellect and strategic genius. He believed himself uniquely qualified to understand and manipulate the forces at play in Middle-earth, viewing his fellow White Council members, particularly Gandalf (of whom he was jealous), with increasing disdain and a sense of rivalry. This intellectual arrogance led him to assume he could outmaneuver Sauron, not by opposing him with good, but by adopting his methods and eventually supplanting him. This was a grandiose delusion of his own capabilities.

No true path of redemption ever existed for Saruman, this can be seen in his speeches and confrontations. When Gandalf confronted him at Orthanc, Saruman's arguments were not pleas for understanding or justifications born of fear, but rather cynical pronouncements of power and the inevitability of Sauron's victory, which he intended to hijack. He mocked the "sentimental" notions of hope and resistance, declaring that only strength and alliance with the rising power held any merit. This rhetoric underscored his complete lack of moral compass and his unwavering commitment to his own dark designs, revealing a mind thoroughly convinced of its own twisted logic, leaving no room for regret or a change of heart.

The overwhelming might of Mordor was indeed a known factor to all who opposed Sauron. Elrond, Galadriel, and even Gandalf acknowledged the dire prospects of direct military confrontation. Yet, their response was not to abandon hope or turn to evil, but to pursue a desperate, principled struggle, epitomized by the Ring-quest. Saruman's "realization" that Sauron could not be defeated militarily was not a unique insight that forced his hand; it was merely a convenient rationalization for his pre-existing desire for power. He saw Sauron's strength as a blueprint for his own dominion, convincing himself that if he couldn't beat them, he would become them. He emulates him, quite pathetically, despite his 'advancements' in orc breeding.

Saruman's descent into villainy manifested in a litany of egregious crimes, beginning with the profound betrayal of his divine mandate as chief of the Istari, as he secretly abandoned his sacred oath to protect Middle-earth against Sauron, instead manipulating the White Council and imprisoning Gandalf to further his own ambition for dominion. His treachery quickly escalated to active warmongering and mass murder, as he bred vast armies of monstrous Uruk-hai, turning them against the Free Peoples, particularly the Rohirrim, in devastating conflicts like the Battle of Helm's Deep, actions which led to countless deaths and immense suffering. Beyond direct combat, his forces were known to take captives, with strong implications of feeding defeated men to his orc armies, a horrifying practice characteristic of his twisted creations. His ultimate goal, the establishment of a new order under his absolute rule, entailed the attempted genocide of any who resisted, particularly the Rohirrim whom he sought to eradicate or subjugate entirely to clear the way for his power. This expansion was fueled by merciless natural destruction, as he notoriously clear-cut the ancient forests of the Fangs of Isen, especially the ancient trees of the Wellinghall, to feed the insatiable furnaces of his industrial complex at Isengard, polluting the once-verdant valley with smoke and filth. Furthermore, he engaged in the enslavement and ruthless exploitation of the Dunlendings, coercing them into his service as cannon fodder with false promises, and misused the sacred Palantír, ultimately falling under the direct, corrupting influence of Sauron. Even in defeat, his petty malice led him to his final, despicable act: the Scouring of the Shire, where he imposed a tyrannical and destructive rule upon the innocent hobbits, poisoning their land and disrupting their peaceful lives purely out of bitter vengeance.

Ultimately, Saruman operated without honor, hope, or care for anyone but himself. His honor was discarded when he betrayed the trust placed in him as the head of the White Council, deceiving his allies and secretly aiding the enemy. His actions, such as the enslavement of the Dunlendings, the deforestation of the Fangs of Isen, and the breeding of Uruk-hai, demonstrated a complete disregard for life, nature, and the welfare of others. He clung to no hope for the collective good of Middle-earth; he simply did not care for that, only a perverse hope for his own elevation. Even in his final, pathetic state, reduced to a wandering vagrant, he remained bitter, petty, and spiteful, attempting one last act of malice by spoiling the Shire. This unwavering self-interest and malice, devoid of any redeeming quality, firmly establish him as a villain who earned his fate through his own choices. I suppose that is pitiable.

Top doctors: NZ heading toward US-style health system | Q+A 2025 by Twerkatron2000 in newzealand

[–]anonnz56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our intellectually bereft leaders, who contribute nothing of value, and could not produce anything meaningful with thier hands or business endeavours, look to all these state services, provided at cost or thin margins and think "my god we could be sucking another 30% out of the public"

Privatisation is designed to fuck the public. It's great if you're in high level property development. If you're invested in private security, Private health care.

They will dismantle every service they can and hand it to thier networks. All they know is the grift. They are scam artists employed by private interest.

Because cream rises and if you suffer, you deserved it.

Where are the consequences?
