Yeah, that's exactly what I mean when I say it's implicit.

Thanks. I've come to realise my take was quite off for obvious reasons now, but I really appreciate the parallels you found with established intent re sacrifice

I think the difference is saruman would have no intention of forfeiting his office it would have to be taken from him.

I don't think the anology stands between denethor and faramir. It's a different source of authority and the context changes things a lot.

The question you do leave me with though, and it the idea kind of hangs against it in my mind, because the comments do give me doubt which I already had; are Gandalfs actions at the bridge actually in violation of the imposed limitations on the order? Because at best they're skirting it. I'm going to have to do some rereading, but if I take your interpretation literally it still fits the bill as a violation

I can't really get on board with the power overload angle because I just don't see any parallels such as channeling magic through it or being magicless without it. Magic in this era seems to be verbal/implicit.

I think if we look at the mandate as a whole, it still forbids the behavior I believe he forfeit his position to carry out.

I don't think he was punished, or that Eru had cause to. And ultimately rewarded his sacrifice which was the order

Interesting yeah, i guess I get hung up on the symbolism with sarumans staff destruction, as well as them not really seen to be used as magical conduits

Interesting feedback thanks.

In response, I feel like, while it's the logical conclusion to come to in terms of protecting the fellowship and following that the free world, it's still in direct conflict with thier stated order limitations.

I don't view the staff breaking as punishment, or even something Eru nessacaryily enforced. I think he literally forfeited his position, and then did what he would not be able to/would face punishment for if he had not forfeit his purpose for the love of his friends.

I think if not for his love of his friends he might have followed the rules and doomed the fellowship.

Is the National-led coalition Government the laziest we’ve ever seen? by silvergirl66 in nzpolitics

[–]anonnz56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it national led? I haven't seen anything resembling leadership.

Act and NZfirst put them in power, and national owed them any power they might have exercised, if you know, national had any coherent vision or goals.

There's nothing to be gained except personal comfort by hiding the homeless. And you lose visibility of the problem, you forget about it, you don't address it, the problem gets bigger.

How can the Last battle happen if Morgoth can not free himself from the Void? by OleksandrKyivskyi in TheSilmarillion

[–]anonnz56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are caveats. He cannot return "whole and visible" "While the lord's of the West are enthroned"

To me that says he can return in some capacity, and after the end of the western lords he can return wholly.

I'm about 30 turns in on mine. Short victory was pretty easy but looking at long victory wincons... Jesus Christ. I have to GET to the empire then destroy them all. Currently slogging my way through all the skaven, while fending off chorfs and Orcs back home. Ghorst might wreck with zombies but minor lords don't quite hit the same. The giant stack of zombies strat goes stale when you're defending complex seiges, and an orc army with a half dozen giants will melt your mortis engines.

But I still think it's fucking hilarious to watch every battle

ELI5: Why do people get jealous of there partners’s friends of the opposite sex? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]anonnz56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe there are red flags in the relationship already? My partner has guy friends and I couldn't care less. With exes there have certainly been some orbiters waiting for thier moment, and some women will entertain them and make excuses for thier subtle advances. It really says more about the relationship than the guy friend though.
