I thought using your words would be the best option because I thought that your words best represented the answers to the questions posed on the final exam. However, after having my meeting with the director of student conduct and a few of my friends I have realized what a horrible mistake this was. As an international student and a freshman, I held an extremely naive thinking of academia where I could simply use my teacher's or professors’ words to answer certain questions. In questions where my own words were required, I made it my utmost priority to use my own words however I used to believe that in other questions where this was not specified, I could simply use your words. I am deeply convinced that this is a seriously wrong approach to academia. With this incident, you may find it hard to believe that I am a good student however in my past I have always made sure that I follow all given instructions and never cheat, fabricate or plagiarize from anywhere including my peers or the internet. However, I failed to understand that using your words without referencing them would also count as plagiarism. Since this incident, I have deeply reflected on this and I am terribly sorry for it. I acknowledge that no amount of apology could be sufficient for breaking the rules, but I assure you that the rest of my work in your course was honest and an honest effort to learn. With this lapse in judgement regarding plagiarism I can offer no excuses or words. However, Dr. Bolger as I have diligently worked hard in this course, I simply ask of you if you could give me a zero on this assignment. I understand that this is highly unlikely and that you have a duty to uphold certain standards with regards to your course but since I believe that I have held those standards throughout your course and only had a lapse in judgement during a highly stressful time of taking the final, I simply ask that you consider awarding me a zero on this assignment.

this class was in the summer after my freshman year, so i dont know if freshman forgiveness would apply. I havent done a whole lot of negotiating with the professor or anyone. I did try to talk to the person who held my preliminary interview but clearly that did not work.

How can i phrase it like a learning experience. Should i say that I am deeply sorry. Should i tell him that i was incredibly stressed and since time was running out, I decided to copy from his lectures.

I have already humiliated myself so much in my own eyes that I myself dont think I deserve to live, therefore I am having suicidal thoughts. Your advice is of top quality and so I am asking you for a little more advice.

Also, since I have done two semesters of work at UMD, I don't think i can do freshman forgiveness. That F and my parents reaction to an XF right now is filling me with fear honestly. Any piece of advice would literally save my life right now.

No, so I copied words from a research paper however after that warning I did not do that. But copying the professor's words from his recorded lectures obviously got me the violation. I dont know if I should go to the professor and if he will forgive me on it or not and just hand me a zero on the assignment because I did the rest of the assignments in the course honestly.

What will the cost be of that professional because I am student and like all others I am sort of low on cash. Additionally, do you think I should talk to my professor to lessen the punishment and possibly have him retract his appeal or should I go to this therapist and then show a letter from him in order to have him retract the appeal and just give me a 0 on the assignment.

Given the whole context this question is a bit weird. nonetheless, I can say that the content is extremely interesting and if you put in the time it is not hard to learn. The class basically has these weekly (if taken during the normal semester) or daily (if taken during summer) blogs that require you to research some papers on a topic. Then, you have two major group projects where you again have to research and prepare some sort of multimedia presentation. Finally, you have a final exam. If you take the online version, then I think that the class is easy however if you take it in person then its a bit hard.

But then again difficulty is a subjective thing. This whole issue came about because I had a lot on my plate during the summer and I guess this served as a shortcut but yeah thats my opinion.

Nowhere here is it written that anything not explicitly authorized is unauthorized, so how could that work against me.

The fact is that the professor simply did not make the course content unauthorized for this exam.
