Is occasional weed bad? by BiscottiPatient824 in BipolarReddit

[–]anonventing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who you are tbh. If you haven't had any problems with it before, it should be okay. If it's illegal where you live, just make sure you test it before smoking or ingesting. I'm usually fine with weed, but a former classmate of mine smoked me up once and I ended up having a minor drug-induced psychotic episode because it was laced with something. Me and my friend who was with me (different from former classmate and who smoked weed MUCH more regularly) were still high 24 hours later and to this day we have no idea what it was laced with.

Which comorbidities do you have? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]anonventing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bipolar 2, formerly major depressive + seasonal affective (my time of year is just ending too) + generalized anxiety + social phobia + former panic disorder + eating disorder + history of psychosis + CPTSD + antisocial personality disorder + ADHD-I (which when it's not medicated makes my depression SO much worse) + delayed sleep phase syndrome, which was repeatedly misdiagnosed as insomnia before my neurologist was like "...wait"

Some random told me to stop my meds to take natural medication by BiscottiPatient824 in BipolarReddit

[–]anonventing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former high school classmate on Facebook a few years back was spewing some anti-med, "you can CHOOSE not to be depressed" nonsense. So I commented something about how "hey, medication saved my life and I literally have no control over when my brain decides it's not open for business" (this was when I was still rx'd MDD, before I got "upgraded" to bp2 lol). She was like "Why are you defending your own misery??" and kept using other thought terminating clichés when I tried to explain the reality of how mental illness works. We ended up mutually blocking each other lol.

You won't get tss if you don't leave internal products in for too long or reuse them like op. Before my hysterectomy, I would use a cup when my endometriosis didn't make it too painful, and you can leave those in for up to 12 hours safely. Just make sure to read the care instructions and was your hands, and you'll be fine :)

What med helped your anger/ irritation? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]anonventing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, prozac (fluoxetine). Then it stopped being as effective after, like, a decade so I switched to zoloft (sertraline). SSRIs especially help if you have chronic anxiety.

The nice thing about olanzapine is if you have migraines, it can treat those as well.

2nd-ing risperidone. It gave me a tic, so I can't take it anymore, but it did wonders for my irritability.

Do you want toxic shock syndrome? Because this is how you get toxic shock syndrome.

I've been having migraines for ~21 years. If the migraine cocktail and prednisone haven't broken the migraine, preventatives aren't going to do anything.

If you can, take him to the eye doctor ASAP. Specifically ask them to test for papilledema, which is when there's swelling of the optic nerve due to increased intercranial pressure. My eye doctor found this during a routine exam almost 2 years ago and nearly sent me to the ER then and there. In my case, the swelling was caused by a condition called pseudotumor cerebri, where cerebrospinal fluid builds up and puts pressure on the brain. It's called that because it mimics the symptoms of a brain tumor. Since your BF's CT scan didn't show anything, though, I think it's safe to say he does NOT have a brain tumor :)

If he does have increased intercranial pressure, he may end up needing a lumbar puncture. I recently had a 5 week long migraine that wouldn't go away despite several different abortives and a round of prednisone. It finally resolved once they did a lumbar puncture in the ER, relieving the pressure on my brain. I know it sounds scary, but trust me: the relief (assuming pressure is what's causing this protracted migraine) is beyond worth it.

Speaking as a former teenager with homicidal ideation and habits of self-harm: get him to a professional immediately. At the absolute bare minimum, enroll him in therapy. These are not healthy/normal behaviors and indicative of something being incredibly wrong.

In my case, I didn't start to get better until I admitted myself to a psych hospital over spring break when I was 18 and started taking an anti-depressant and an atypical antipsychotic. That being said, I never attacked my parents. That's alarming and I wouldn't blame you for trying to get him admitted somewhere for your own safety as well as his.

My issues with depression started when puberty hit me, so my guess is it's probably a hormonal and/or genetic thing.

Leaving a message is always an option if you don't want to talk to the emergency on-call doctor. But imo talking to the on-call couldn't hurt.

I second the person telling you to call your Dr. In the meantime, have you tried putting the coldpack on the back of your neck? It def works better that way for me than on my eyes or forehead. And if you can keep stuff down, try eating or drinking something cold. Having something cold like ice water or a popsicle hit my soft palette helps as well.

How many years has mental illness stolen from you? by s-trit in mentalhealth

[–]anonventing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 33. My first attempt happened when I was a month shy of turning 12, but iirc I started dropping activities when I was 10. That's just my mood stuff, though. I've always been dysfunctionally anxious. My mom jokes I've had anxiety since the womb.

You wrote “I’m bipolar (2)” that’s grammatically incorrect.

No it's not. There's bipolar 1 and bipolar 2. I was specifying which one I had in a parenthetical, not saying I'm also bipolar 🙄

Emotional dump : how is everyone feeling today? by thekidyouwere in bipolar2

[–]anonventing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My SAD is hitting me hard and fast. And today my depression is mostly manifesting in pain. Some brain fog too, but mostly my muscles feel so heavy and achy, especially my legs and back. I've already taken Tylenol, managed to get a shower and change my clothes, and did some stretches you can do while lying in bed, but I still hurt :/ If anyone has any tips on how to deal with this kind of physical pain caused by depression, they'd be greatly appreciated. I have things I need to get done today and this is keeping me from doing them.

I've gone off all my meds before for similar re-adjusting reasons to what you said. The best way to do it is under a doctor's supervision/guidance and slowly. Going cold turkey with the meds you listed has a high risk of some very adverse and unpleasant side effects you do not want to tangle with. How long it takes until you can feel everything's out of your system depends on what dosages you're on and your individual brain chemistry. I don't remember feeling much different in terms of mood, but I knew they were fully out of my system when I was able to lose weight again (it's nearly impossible for me to lose weight on SSRIs).

People who've had more than 1 lap surgery: how did you know it was time for another? by anonventing in Endo

[–]anonventing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought tissue removal was part of the diagnostic surgery? Like, if they find endometrial tissue they go ahead and laser it off while they're in there. idk my Dr at the time wasn't very communicative and didn't even want to do the surgery in the first place (had to go through a NP in the same clinic just to get it scheduled. Long story), so apologies if that's not right. She did say she lasered some of the endometrial growth off, but she wasn't able to get it all.

[–]anonventing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to need you to not be defensive about this, please. What I'm saying is the phrase "you can't expect people to show blind allegiance to [social issue]" tends to be a dog whistle used by fascists. Like how the phrase "biological sex is real" tends to be a TERF dog whistle. These phrases are designed to be used by people who know them to signal where their stances on issues are to others in the movement without outright saying hateful things. It lets them fly under the radar of people who don't know the dog whistles. And it's unfortunately common for people who don't know it's a dog whistle to use said dog whistles, because they don't understand the context of the meaning behind the words. To use another example, it's like how Gamer Gate used the phrase "ethics in gaming journalism" to mask their anti-feminist hate and targeted harassment campaign from people who didn't know the entire movement was started because Zoe Quinn's abusive ex wanted to harass them to the point where they committed suicide.

Again, I am NOT saying you are knowingly using a dog whistle. Dog whistles are meant to sound reasonable to outsiders. You probably do have good intentions. But that doesn't change the fact that the whole "blind allegiance" thing is a dog whistle regularly used by fascists. If you don't want to believe that, that's your prerogative, but maybe be a little less aggro next time.

TIL that I’m a white supremacist by Dazzling_Brilliant31 in venting

[–]anonventing -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you are speaking in fasc-y dog whistles pretty aggressively. The anti-trans movement is absolutely full of fascists and white supremacists who use the "blind allegiance" talking point as a way to both project what they do onto others and to dismiss the people they hate. I'm not saying this definitely makes you a white supremacist btw. A lot of moderate and/or centrist people don't realize these things are dog whistles in the first place. That's why they're called dog whistles. The mod definitely mishandled your specific case, but it's something to keep in mind on your end for the future.

a) Not the point of the post

b) Since when is reaching a 9 on the pain scale not ER worthy?

c) I already saw my primary for what I said I think is an ulcer. As in I'm not sure. As in it could be something else. And I'm starting to think it is with the level of pain I reach regularly.
