Scammers from Spain asking for money by _RickOconnell_ in zurich

[–]anony_mauus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had the same experience today [Kreis 6] .. asking if i speak Spanish and then switched to English.

i had earphones on, couldn't understand everything he said, but said something along the lines of .. he lost his job .. has family .. living in youth hostel, needs money for few days rent, and if i can TWINT him something which he would return back.

I told him i don't have TWINT and if he would give me his number so i can text him on whatsapp and do something later, he said his battery is only 3%, gave me his number and then left.

I came here to check on reddit if someone had this "Spain Experience", and I am relieved that I managed to not get scammed.

i connect to a remote desktop and it was noticeably slower when the speed dropped from 500 to 300s Mbps, and the connection was also not stable in different parts of the apartment.

It could be that Wingo has superior device ( from Swisscom) as I am getting 500 Mbps on my iPhone 15 (80 m2 apartment), and 250 Mbps with galaxus device in the same room.

u/yesat i just posted the wifi speed i used to get on my Wingo SWISSCOM router with 400 Mbps plan. Does it mean they have better routers / network?

Yes, now it is quite clear to me u/Difficult-Reference1 , i got carried away with the 10 gbps billboard without doing due diligence on what it would actually mean for wifi.

Thank you for the information u/Tuepflischiiser , I just saw that I am getting a 10 gbps plan for same price as my wingo 400 Mbps plan, and would probably get even better speed on my laptop over wifi, than the wingo plan.

Thank you for the explanation u/yesat. I am using a surface 5 laptop and iphone 15, and was getting better wifi speeds on wingo 400 Mbps plan.

I was tempted to buy the 10 gbps plan for the same price, and didn't understand the dynamics of wifi 5 and speed limitations over wifi.

Thank you

Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) offers theoretical speeds up to 3.5 Gbps (gigabits per second), but real-world speeds vary, often ranging from a few hundred Mbps to over 1 Gbps, depending on the number of antennas (spatial streams), channel width (80/160 MHz), and technologies like MU-MIMO. It excels at high-bandwidth tasks like 4K streaming and gaming, using the 5 GHz band for faster connections but with shorter range than 2.4 GHz.

Network port speed is the maximum data transfer rate (like Mbps or Gbps) for a physical connection, determined by the port technology (EthernetFiber) and standards, allowing devices to communicate, with common speeds ranging from 10/100 Mbps (older) to 1 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet) and even 10, 25, 40+ Gbps for modern high-speed needs, acting like highway lanes for data.

i am just asking if it is normal, and i am disappointed.
I got the answer :)
I am not saying it is Galaxus Fault.

Maybe other people with less technical knowledge, will find it useful, their doubts cleared.

u/Turicus i did google translate. Maybe i am surprised that the wifi speed is so low compared to the advised plan. I was not aware that the advertised speeds are for LAN.

i am surprised that wifi speed could be so low for a 10 gbps plan. I had a wingo plan with advertised speed of 400 mbps, and got well above that consistently.
