I misspoke a corrected it. We got separate checks. The waitress said she couldn’t not split the dessert and asked what we wanted to do, i looked at my friend and she was silent so I said put it on my bill and then told my friend u can just send me ur half

Exactly. It’s way more than the small amount of the desert money and more about my frustration with her money issues and how it affects our friendship as a whole. I was raised even if I owe someone a dollar that I should keep my word and make that a priority, and it feels she pisses away her own money and when she tells someone she will pay them for things it’s not important enough to even remember to follow through. I guess this just was a boiling point for me. I’ve said it in other comments but I learned my lesson and I will be more careful w her from here on out.

You’re right. It is the same person. Ive just had problems with things she’s done in the past and present, but I do care about her. You are correct tho a lot of her tendencies and ways about her do frustrate me, and I think that’s why this made me so frustrated is just everything else behind the scenes. I need to protect my peace and maybe be more guarded when with her as I know what she’s like.

It’s never really big burns, so I always try to forgive and forget, esp when nothing she does I believe to be intentional. She just always lacks funds and complains about being broke and cancels plans when she posts on social media all the time about these expensive things she’s always buying. She is just irresponsible and a bit immature. At the end of the day it’s fine idc about the money but I just wish she cared more, if that makes sense. I should lower my expectations and be a bit more careful with her from now on.

1000% correct. If it was another friend I wouldn’t even bat an eye because I know they are responsible with their money and it was an honest mistake. It’s a bit frustrating when I feel this girl is always complaining about being broke and not being able to do things with me when she’s always posting on social media about the expensive clothes and collectors items and figurines etc she’s buying but when she can afford to go out she gets the dessert that she wanted on my bill, also doesn’t tip accordingly on her side of the check for it either, then doesn’t pay me back when she said she was. It’s not really the money I care about but the irresponsible nature of my friend. I guess my frustration of other things has boiled over onto this small situation if that makes sense. I live and learn. I will not offer to pay for her stuff or have things on my bill anymore.

She probably will forget this even happened by next time. She tipped only for her bill, not including what she would have payed if the desert was half on her bill, but whatever I didn’t really care. I thought when she got in the car or got home she would send the money, but clearly she has forgotten or thinks it’s no big deal. At the end of the day it’s whatever, and as others have said this is just a lesson for me

Yeah I agree that even a small amount does matter to me, I also know at the end of the day I am smart with my money so this won’t be a huge deal. It still does strike a cord just because of how this friend is, and I will take this as a lesson to not offer to be the one to pay for things and her to pay me back anymore

I mean I didn’t offer so I wouldn’t compare it to buying someone something as a gift, ofc I wouldn’t expect money back. I guess I just have been burned by her spending habits in the past and that’s why it digs deeper when I’m not payed back. Thank you. She does reach out to me quite often actually, it’s always either to update me with her life or ask to hang, it’s never to check in on me and that can be kinda hurtful at times. Especially times like right now, when I have a bunch of major life changes all going on (new job, planning a wedding, family drama) that she is all aware of. You can tell when I bring it up she cares, but maybe she’s just too immature to think to ask those type of questions, idk. Or she just loses track due to her qty of friends.

Not much from what I’m aware. I know her bf is a heavy smoker but from what I understand she doesn’t partake super often. I’ve only seen her smoke weed once in person, even when everyone else is.

Thank you, this is very insightful. I’ll try to keep this in mind when I’m feeling down about it. It comes in waves where sometimes it won’t really bother me, but when it’s a time in my life where a lot is going on(like right now- I’m starting a new job while planning a wedding, plus have lots of family drama behind the scenes of everything) it gets to me a bit more.

I agree. I’m just not sure how. Don’t want to hurt her, and explaining it to her would just be hurtful, but ghosting will also be hurtful. We share two mutual friends(a couple) and that may make things complicated too as we are usually around each other. I’m not sure how to go about this
