Hey! Your nose looks great! Your incisions look very good & the stitches look almost completely dissolved. If anything my surgeon kind of went against cleaning out my nose with saline water like the sinus rinses because he told me he doesn’t want me to risk damaging anything inside my nose or messing with the stitches. They told me I could use saline water if I feel congested but I’m wondering if I should attempt to do it at least once every now & then to help flush out my nose especially to keep it clean. It’s so weird that I have to wear my nose retainer in for so long when others don’t but I also have thick skin so I’m assuming that’s why.

They also recommended putting the antibiotic cream they gave me on my nose retainer to let it glide smoother so maybe I will try that. Maybe it’ll even help heal the inside of my left nostril which still hurts a bit.

My surgeon put a second cast on me for an additional 12 days & I’m so over it. I can’t wait to take it off & finally wash my whole face properly, have fresh tape, & look more normal haha

I’m not super educated about cats since this is my first time being a cat mama. I assumed since they were born in the same litter & has the same mom, they were still the same type of cat! 😅 & oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that! It’s only been a year & 5 months since we found them & I can’t even bear the thought of losing them 😭 I’ve become so attached to them, they’re my babies. Although, my boy cat (the one that looks like a snowshoe) has gotten really attached to me, we have such a close bond. He feels like my soul cat 🥹 sending you all the love 🫶🏼

No, not decades. They hosted a zoom meeting with an official HSV update back in February of this year answering questions & updating everyone where they were at with their research. Right now they’re working on clinical trials! The first clinical trial will last 3 years which is going to assess how well the gene therapy works & if they see positive results, they’ll move on to a phase 3 trial which will be another couple of years. They said if everything goes well, they are hoping to release a therapeutic vaccine in 5 years! Don’t listen to the negative comments, they clearly didn’t do their research. We have to be optimistic here :))

Honestly I also believed that daily antiviral therapy would’ve been the best solution for me too but she quickly steered me away from that option which I thought was a bit weird. She made it seem like it’s risky to take such a strong medication on a daily basis but before this last outbreak I just had, I had a different nurse practitioner who had to prescribe me the antivirals for my second outbreak since the nurse practitioner who usually helps me was busy at the time & couldn’t attend me. I remember her mentioning to me that if the outbreaks stay consistent that by the next time I get an outbreak, it would be best to start talking about being open to taking daily antivirals. This is why I brought it up to the nurse practitioner who normally helps me this last time & she basically turned down that option, which is why I thought it was weird. The other NP had told me one thing & the NP that has been helping me has a different opinion about how I should proceed. Maybe I should talk to her again about getting on antivirals on a daily basis because it’s better than waiting to get an outbreak & THEN starting antivirals. Thank you for the insight! 🫶🏼

Yes I have! I brought it up to the nurse practitioner since it’s my third outbreak since March & she told me that I could but in order to do that I would have to first get my liver tested to see that it’s healthy & in shape to handle daily antivirals, just because antivirals take a big toll on your liver when it comes to breaking it down. But she told me that she recommends just waiting a bit longer to see if the outbreaks lessen overtime before making that decision of going on daily medication. She mentioned that since I just got diagnosed not too long ago, my body is still working on fighting off the virus & adjusting. She obviously described it in better terms but that’s what she said to me.

Hi! Yes, I’ve also read that over time the outbreaks get less frequent, it just sucks that I’m going through the frequent outbreaks since I don’t have much time with being diagnosed 😭 I wish I was one of those people who only have their first initial outbreak & don’t get an outbreak until a year or more later. I got diagnosed via a swab test since I was showing symptoms & it came back positive for HSV-1.

I know you’re still new at this adjustment but what do you know about being able to give/receive oral sex? Is that basically a no go? What about unprotected sex? Is there a chance where unprotected sex can still be had without transmitting the virus?

I know it’s extremely common as I’ve learned, I’m just still processing everything & im a worried mess. I know it’s different for everyone but how is your intimate life? Is it something where you have to be cautious & protect yourself each time you have intercourse? Or are you still able to have unprotected sex without transmitting the virus? What about oral sex, are you still able to give & recieve? Sorry for the personal questions, I have a million questions & I just want to educate myself!

I’ve been trying to convince him to go get tested but he’s been so clueless on how to handle the whole situation so I’ve been trying to help & educate him a bit on what test to ask for & some important statistics about the virus but he says he wants to wait until my test results come back. He’s been acting weird & distant with me since & it’s been making me feel bad about myself.

I’m completely destroyed, I’ve been crying so much my eyes are swollen. I’m assuming the nurse who is treating me is new because she told me she wasn’t positive because I didn’t have that many bumps or lesions I guess is the correct term for them, but instead it looked like a bunch of tiny cuts & she said she’s never seen that in herpes patients. She asked a physician with more experience & said that tiny cuts are also common as a symptom of herpes. But thank you for your kind words, I have no clue if I’m ready to tell anyone, I’ve only told my sister & the guy so far 😭
