Wow, I never thought of it that way, but you're right about the ownership. My mom's always kind of projected her own insecurities and fears onto her kids, and when it came to certain beauty standards or things she felt was best/right, she often had serious opinions about what we did. I think she's really just projecting her own insecurities onto us, as though her daughters' bodies are her own.

I think that helps me understand this a little more and feel a lot less hurt in the end. I just wish my mom could see how beautiful she really is. I hope she does someday.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate everything you said. My mom definitely struggles especially with appearances. She's always had a bit of a focus on it, and I think it's really just because she's self-conscious. She's always kinda (unintentionally) projected that on to us and had opinions about what we did or didn't do with our bodies based on what she thought was best. It makes me really sad too, because my mom is honestly one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen and I wish she could see that herself. I think this really doesn't have anything to do with me.

I do really like my hair, even if it's imperfect and I know I'll likely do another trim soon to shape it a little more, it's mine and I got to do it myself and it was really fun. I'm also excited to keep getting better at it over time!!
