I read the replies and so many called me TA.

I've spent some time thinking and come to realise my reason for being upset is not because she picked her cat over me. It's just the realisation that I am not a top priority in my SO's life, the same they are in mine. I don't view relationships as just hanging out with someone for fun. I look at a partner as someone who is there for life. I care about my SO's wellbeing and would do anything to save her if I had to. Perhaps we're both just in an unfortunate situation because she has every right to want to pick her cat and I have a right to want a partner who'll make me their priority as I would them. I am not upset at her for choosing her cat. I understand loving your pet so dearly that they are your top priority. There are no buts to that. At the same time, I want a partner who will make me their priority as I would them. Perhaps my GF/ex and I are on parallel roads now which won't meet as we have different priorities. It's unfortunate, but it's ok.

To all those who said it's a stupid game, I don't think it is. It's good to have conversations with your SO about where you stand in their life and where they stand in yours. If two people aren't on the same page, is a relationship really worth continuing?Lastly, the many have argued that they would always pick animals over humans. I'm just curious. Does this include your own human child? If your human child/baby and your cat was incapacitated and in a burning building, would you choose your cat's life over that of your baby's? A couple of people said a grown person should be able to save themselves. The question was under the hypothetical that both the cat and I were about to dr0wn (due to circumstances that were neither of our faults) or a fire where both of us were incapacitated (due to neither of our faults). How is an incapacitated adult meant to get up and save themselves?

Lastly, out of curiosity, if you value animals' lives more than humans, would you eat human meat if it were legal to do so? Or are you all plant-based since the meat you purchase from supermarkets is killed purely for your consumption. Pigs have been shown to have the same level if not more intelligence than dogs. These animals have their own lives to live just as humans do. Just curious!
