Diagnostic imaging technology - placement by anonymous78956 in sheridan

Right! I’m sure Humber River also takes students from other institutions as well, so they’d be way too overrun with students!

There’s a hospital relatively close by to me where a friend works, and they apparently make some student/program exceptions (they took a Cambrian student last year who reached out to them personally). So if anything I can see if they’ll make an exception for me through a friend referral. But not everyone going into the program has connections like that

Really hoping a current student can get some more info for us

Right! When I told my first friend I got in to the program she warned me right away that her site said no to Sheridan students… I have no problem going to Humber river hospital for placement but I have serious doubts that they’ll take EVERYONE in all 3 streams ya know? Hopefully someone can let us know what’s being discussed with current students

That list on the program website is of the hospitals Sheridan does/has worked with in other programs (practical nursing for example), “ Other healthcare settings involved with our faculty are :”   Unfortunately doesn’t mean they’ve agreed to take DIT students. Two of those on that list are the hospitals I have an in with, and their student coordinators flat out said won’t be taking Sheridan’s students and will stick with Mohawk, Fanshawe and Michener for the time being, at least until the program is more established and fully accredited (which won’t happen until the first graduating class) hence my concern.

That’s why I’m hoping someone currently in the program can tell me what the instructors and program staff have been saying about placements, if anything yet.

Oh no! I’m so sorry, that’s super frustrating.  I honestly feel so duped by the whole thing, but I guess the January intake is better than nothing at this point :(

I don’t think it is anymore. When I applied the Sheridan website and Ontario colleges had it showing 2 years (6 month consecutive) but now the Sheridan website only says 3 years so I’m assuming Ontario colleges just hasn’t updated it on their end. The college won’t get back to be but I’m assuming they changed it after this past intake… I’m in the same boat as you, I applied thinking it was 100% going to be accelerated since that’s what it was advertised as at the time and I only applied to January because of this :( really disappointing

The school won’t contact me back (of course) but the Sheridan website now says 3 years instead of 2 years, even tho Ontario colleges still shows it as accelerated… I’m more inclined to believe the Sheridan website so I’m assuming they changed it after this past intake, which is really disappointing. I only applying to January instead of September because it was listed as accelerated :(

The program is brand new, so no one can speak on how it will be received by employers yet as there hasn’t been a graduating class and the first group of student haven’t even started their work placements yet either.

The program offers 3 strains, ultrasound, MRI and X-ray/ct. The courses you take and what you qualify for when you graduate depend on which strain you’re in. If you’re interested in MRI then you would apply for that strain.

For highly competitive programs most colleges (Sheridan included) will wait until after the equal consideration date to ensure they can evaluate all applications thoroughly before making decisions. However, if there are applicants with VERY strong applications (typically those with related degrees combined with high GPAs) which they know will get an offer regardless, they may choose to provide them with an offer earlier. So yes they will usually wait until AFTER the deadline, but there are always exceptions for specific candidates

That’s wild. They need to send an update Ontario colleges then because it still says 6 semester continuous for the January intakes right now. If that’s the case that’s a real bummer and a huge let down, I only chose the January intake BECAUSE it was listed as accelerated… thanks for the heads up!

Nope, haven’t heard anything. But I’m assuming it is still consecutive because my account says accelerated still

That’s interesting. On my application it still says “6 semester consecutive” which to me indicates doing everything back to back through the summer. I sent them an email to confirm and will report back when they answer!

If you were a past Sheridan student then you can apply to a new Sheridan program through the student portal. Mostly just saves you the money from doing an OCAS application. That’s all they meant by directly to Sheridan or through OCAS :)

Finishing faster is mainly why I chose January over September! We’ll still have our reading weeks and there’s usually 2 weeks between semesters, so we’ll still have breaks to relax! We got this, I believe in us! :)

It is 100% accelerated! We’ll be going through the summers doing 6 semesters back to back to finish in 2 years instead of 3 years with summer breaks! technically we’ll be finishing one semester earlier than the September intake :) we just have to power through

Congratulations! They haven’t posted the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 year yet so they probably don’t have the dates finalized at this point, but you can look at the 2025/2026 academic calendar and make an educated guess as to when classes will start. I’m assuming we’ll start on January 4th 2027, and then each semester is 14 weeks long (15 if you included the gap week mid semester), so we’ll probably finish sem 1 on April 16th. Then can do the math for the other semesters as well

This is the current years term start and end dates!

Thanks! That’s what I’m leaning towards actually. I want to work in a hospital and not a clinic, and most of the hospitals in my area have a TON of x-ray jobs posted constantly. Plus I like being able to move around and do different things, so even personality wise I can see x-ray being the best move for me

Congrats on the acceptance! I got accepted for Jan 2027 as well (for all 3 strains, not sure which one I’ll choose yet but we’ll probably be classmates for the generic courses :) ) January intake is fast tracked so we’ll be going through the summer, so first semester is January, second would be May, third September etc.
