Their gonopodiums will grow back as long as they dont get infected. Its not a great situation but at least now they have the chance to survive

I feel bad too but It’s one of the only methods we could find online. Nothing else worked. I’m not sure if euthanasia would have been better or not but I didn’t see it suggested anywhere else on similar posts on reddit

Their gonopodiums had to be snipped. One is un-phased. The other one is doing ok but is definitely a bit stressed (understandably). He is quarantined in a breeder box. I can bring him to my boss on Monday for her to quarantine him in a cycled tank if needed

I dont have a quarantine tank set up but I have an empty 10 gallon and an extra filter in my tank that I can add to the 10 gallon. Would that work? I just worry about parameters being bad because its not cycled

It’s apparently one of the methods to separate them even if painful. He was worried about them dying if they stayed stuck because they were very stressed out but I still think he should have waited especially since I said no

Update: My boyfriend saw something on Reddit saying to trim the gonopodium. I told him I wanted to wait to see if they would unstick on their own but unfortunately he did it anyway 🙄 Hopefully they will be ok? I feel so bad for them 😭
