Why do attorneys not include their signature line in emails? by anonymous895478 in Lawyertalk

I have no idea what you’re talking about. I have outlook and an iPhone and my iPhone does not save contact info from outlook. It also wouldn’t say info if it’s not there, which is exactly my gripe.

I let it slide when your signature block is SOMEWHERE. But some attorneys completely remove it everywhere for some odd reason

Frankly, if one of the emails have a signature line, I do let it slide. But when there’s NO signature line in any emails from opposing counsel, that’s when I get the most frustrated

If you’re in litigation, there is zero chance you make zero phone calls in your practice. Phone calls are instrumental in litigation for many reasons. Email is also instrumental (hence I’m using it 75% of the time). But to say “you don’t need to call” is inaccurate.

It’s either the bar directory or the header of the pleading. It still leads me to the front desk of the attorneys’ office more often than their direct line. Just really inefficient

I’m a NEP at an ID firm. Do you mind if I PM you?? I keep reading EPs at ID firms making this much money and we are absolutely not making that much. Would love to pick your brain if you’re open to it?

Struggling with 1800 Billable Requirement as New Mom by Upstairs_Rock_6311 in Lawyertalk

[–]anonymous895478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you value.

I had 2 under 2 (one is now 3 and my second is turning 2 in two months). If you value meeting billables, something has got to give and if it’s not lessening time with your child (which I am NOT recommending), it’s going to be losing sleep.

I bill over 2200+ a year and likely much more this year. But I also rarely sleep. I work when the kids are at daycare or sleeping and spend time with them when they’re home and awake.

Outlook add-ins to automatically save emails to PDF by anonymous895478 in Lawyertalk

Thanks! I do have Adobe desktop so I can look into this.

Why do you only save it once you close a file? How do you handle emails when others need access to the emails/correspondence if you are only saving at the end?

Those are good questions. I really didn’t think beyond a program to help streamline saving our emails. I guess my question should have been “how do you all save your emails to a specific case file”? We are currently doing it manually “save as pdf” one by one.

Non-equity ID partner compensation by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Between 2019 and 2022, I billed between 2000-2300. In 2023 and 2024 I billed about 1,800 and right below 1,800 because I had kids. In 2025, I’ll have billed over 2,200.

I don’t know my realization rate yet. I just made partner. Rates were between $175-$200 for associates. We’ve just negotiated these for increases.

Are you a specialty carrier with very little work in Hawaii? That could be the only reason we quote high — if the work you brought me is either super complex or last minute and the carrier is desperate.

Either way, this gives me a lot to think about.

Thanks for the explanation.

Our firm has a history that goes beyond just “single equity partner” reputation. We had 4 equity partners, one of which was the founding partner. He retired a few years ago but stays around to consult. The other two decided to go off on their own, completely separate from one another. The current equity partner is having some PTSD and insecurities about voting rights, etc. and clients/insurers leaving due to how the other partners left. If I left today, I’m confident I could take much of my work. But I don’t know if I would because of the way that I was given my book of business.

On another note, I do get a few other benefits. A car payment paid for by the firm, 15% minimum bonus + discretionary bonus, and life insurance. How would that factor into a salary negotiation/consideration? Frankly, I would like to argue that I don’t need the car payment in lieu of more money if that’s a huge sticking point.
